It's certainly shorter than average. But it's still not that short, most girls are shorter than him. Average for guys is probably something like 5'9'' or 5' 10''.

Yes, of course they're not saying it explicitly. But it's just no coincidence that Spencer is like that. And practically all the scientists you see portrayed anywhere are like that.
