No, Bloody isn't anywhere near as bad as Wanker, but a teacher might reprimand a school kid for saying it.

It's used as a much softer version of f*ckin' as in...

'You bloody idiot'
'Bloody hell, look at the size of that!'

But Never as

'Bloody off'
'Bloody me'
or 'You stupid Bloody.'

Huh. I had always assumed that "bloody" = "f*ck" in every kind of use. So I always figured that when they showed Brits on tv they were just playing up that "bloody" to make them seem more British and didn't realize they were making the characters swear like sailors! Cool

Is bloody considered that bad of a cuss word?

No, you missed my point, bloody, waner, "the beeb" and telly are all stereotypical British words which aren't really used that much here but are over used in British chacters dialogue in US TV shows to build the character.

As a kid, the words bugger and bloody were swear words, but occasionally we used them as they're not really that insulting.

To be fair, w*nker may be seen to Americans as typically british, but it is quite insulting to be called a w*nker.

I don't necessarily have a problem with it, it's just what with everyone banging on that LG15 is ok for young kids, (well, teenagers) introducing words like this isn't really acceptable. But hey, that's society, and they probably use words much worse than this already..

I guess it's just not suitable for teens in the UK, then...because it seems that in places like Aus and the US...it's not that bad. Sorry it started as your word, but it seems to be evolving through globalization.

i think it was kinda weird for her to say that too, but i kinda understood why (apart from the fact they were trying to make her sound british), in nz and aus i think wanker is used for ppl who are up themselves a lot, like have a big ego, thats how my mum uses it anyway, shes from the uk but only uses it for ppl that hav pissed her off a lot, usually men...

soooo p monkey seems very egotistical i guess , the way bree acts him out sometimes, but it still is a harsh word to use Confused

also ppl said it could be because shes trying to tell bree hes bugged, but thats a weird way to say it too

Ah right OK sorry - I got your Lost joke, I meant the last part of your post.

I wasn't saying that bloody is considered as bad of a cuss word, it's not it's just over used in US TV shows by British characters.

This should be a poll, and one of the choices should be "Who gives a wanking Christ?"

Three pages....on the use of wanker. That is excellent!! IMO I think they were trying to establish her as being British by using a universally recognized (but stereotypically) British term. Wether they used it incorrectly or not I think alot of people got the point so the purpose behind the usage was accomplished.

*tech4u2hire hands PushedButton a gold star for a three page thread on the proper use of wanker
