Actually, in Britain, the word frock is still used by a lot of people...I still use the word frock after living in Canada for 15 years. As is petrol...another word I still use...:p

Her accent is weird. Sometimes she sounds British, sometimes she sounds like a Kiwi...and in her last video, she sounded totally American for almost an entire sentence nearer the beginning. Listen to: "There was a girl, about your age now..." O_O

No really though, it almost sounds fake. It reminds me of people I know (Americans) trying to sound Brittish.

I can tell that it's fake. I know English people, and you can tell as she's talking that her ameican accent slips. That's what tipped me off. Actually, The person I know in England is named Gemma! What a coincidence. But my Gemma is hotter Smile

Yes, it sounds nothing like when I...a lowly american...attempt an English accent. If it did...well, that would be truly horrible. My attempt is really bad, of course.

lowly american?

I'd rather have an American accent, it's much more interesting.

Wanna swap? Very Happy

American accent...which kind? Wink Midwestern ones aren't the most desireable, lol...and that's what I have.

I like petrol vs. gasoline. Gasoline sounds dirty, which it is, but petrol makes me think it might be a delightful dessert, or a small bird of some kind.

Yes, and saying things like "Oh, let's take my car; I have plenty of gas," just doesn't sound too appealing, does it?

Well since we all know she's an actress, since she plays Gemma, we can assume she might've taken acting classes. There's a lot of speech therapists that will either try to get rid of your accent (usually southern drawls for commercial work) or teach you a new one.

On this subject, did anyone see that thing on Mtv..I think it was a "True Life" about the Statten (is that how you spell that?) Island girls...with the one actress trying to get rid of her accent? It was freakin' hilarious!! I mean, good luck to her and everything, but I don't think she's getting rid of that anytime soon.

Oh ok. I admit, I could have googled it, but then you would have had nothing to correct me about.
I stand corrected. You live and learn eh?

Is gemma supposed to be a kiwi but living in britain or is she actually supposed to be english and born in england? If the latter is true, the creators really need to change it to the former, because there's no way anyone from england would talk like that!

we take correct pronnunciation seriously at AOG!

What difference does it make? Don't get upset about an accent, of all things! Smile

I'm an American, and when I fake an English accent I sound exactly like Gemma. In fact, I do her voice-overs! Wink

i saw that. I feel bad for her, but I got rid of mine. You have to move away from there for a while to realize you even have an accent. Very Happy

Frankly, I dont care about her accent, and I'm not good with accents at all, so I cant really pinpoint where it's from.
And I dont want to come off as rude or anything, but cant we just move on?
I'm sure with all of us talking about it, the writers are sure to pick up on it, and put something in her next vlog that tells us where exactly its from.
Sooo yeah.
