Hai nihonjin desu. Arigatou gozaimashita.
... shikashi my Nihongo isn't as good as I'd like it to be (which is why I might speak in Jap-lish) if asked something in Japanese.

 likewise except for the fact that I think that's the extent of what I can say, but thanks for participating in my limited nihongo that I was too terrified to say to an actually japanese person
