Quoted, because this needs to be repeated.

"Memories flooded my mind, like a delicate symphony, wet, with blood."

Anyone have a clue on where that is from?

I really, really, do not like Sarah. I think she should grow up, fast. A lot of people get divorced, actually, the divorce rate is around %50 no isn't it? (Ok, took a deep breath, trying to be civil; you should see what I was originally going to write). She looks very self-absorbed.

*sigh*. This is very hard. I am trying really hard not to snap.

My point is, she is the narccisist (yea, go ahead, laugh at the spelling). She was trying to reflect what she knows is wrong with her onto Taylor when she called her, that (not going to try it again).

She also seems to want to be the center of attention. i.e, the lipstick gun, the striptease, the weird quote on the wall (which might have a duel meaning, I have been trying to find out were it came from, but n such luck. Anyone else fare better?)

Yea, her parents put more attention on Taylor. It really is not the end of the world. (once again, that was hard not to go off).

Damnit... I dont want to go off, I'll just stop here, I think I did okay to this point.

Sarah is not narcissistic; she is correct when she suggests Taylor is.

Sarah is solipsistic; she believes that her mind is real, but that no one else's is.

Ask her. I bet she agrees, if she answers at all.

Wouldn't a narcissist have jumped at the chance to go in front of the camera instead of having to be coaxed out, though? I don't get the impression that Sarah's a narcissist.

I'm interested in why you think this one, Apo. I admit I've never encountered a solipist before (to the best of my knowledge).

The Sylvia Plath quotations were my first indication.

Especially this one:

Sylvia Plath wrote:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my eyes and all is born again.

A solipsistic point of view if ever there was one.

Also, one of Plath's more notable poems is titled Soliloquy of the Solipsist.

Interesting. I can see what you're saying.

Seems like there's varying degrees to that philosophy, though. A spectrum ranging from a "mind over matter" outlook to extreme existentialism.

Indeed. Sarah's particular form isn't really so much "mind over matter" as it is "only I matter."

Sarah is self-centered; concerned about Daniel and Jonas insomuch as she might use one of them for her own pleasure. She doesn't know either of them very well; her charms are obviously wasted on both of them.

Now that's not nice, Apo. Sad I don't think she thinks so. Otherwise, why help out before? And why be sullen over the Jules debacle?

ETA: Actually, what's the difference between what you just suggested and narcissism? That sounds like a classic description of narcissism there.

Are solipsism and narcissism mutually exclucive? Maybe she's both Smile

I don't think they're mutually exclusive at all, no. I guess I'm just confused by Apo's explanation since his illustration of her as a solipist sounds like a description of a narcissist to me, though he thinks she's not one.

Here is what the dictionary says,

sol·ip·sism
1. Philosophy. the theory that only the self exists, or can be proved to exist.
2. extreme preoccupation with and indulgence of one's feelings, desires, etc.; egoistic self-absorption.

nar·cis·sism
1. inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love; vanity.

solipsism has a more specifically philosophical meaning, but the two in general parlance don't seem that far apart.

ETA

On second thought, the difference between the two is subtle, but I would agree with Apo if I were to pick just one, I think solipsist would be a better description of Sarah's personality.

They aren't. In this case, we have Taylor. She seems to enjoy talking to us about herself. Taylor is the center of her own universe.

We also have Sarah. She doesn't really enjoy talking about herself. To her, there is no universe of which to be the center. She believes that she is all that really exists.

The difference is subtle, just a Rob indicates. Taylor is the narcissistic one, just as Sarah suggests. Sarah isn't narcissistic. She isn't in love with herself. She just doesn't believe the rest of us are real.
