No love for the "there, their, they're" issues. Sigh. Woe is me.

* You should definitely spell definitely definitely.
* A lot is 2 words. Allot means to distribute.
* Your throws of ecstasy send me into throes of amusement.
* I before E except after C or when sounding like A as in neighbour and weigh. Unless it's weird.
* Rouge is a colour. Rogue isn't.
* Et cetera does not abbreviate to ect, ecc, or ec. It is etc.
* You can defuse a bomb, but diffusing it might be a bad idea.
* Thru is only a word if you're referring to getting a hamburger in your car.
* Per se means of itself, per say is only how you pronounce it.
* E.g means for example, I.E means that is. I.E, always be correct.
* Yours is not mine. You're means you are.
* Fire is fierty. Burns all misspellings.
* If you had a D, you wouldn't deserve congratulations.
* Never enter your pin number on an ATM machine, you could get HIV virus.
* "Your stupid!". My stupid what?
* If you did have a baited breath, you would smell rather fishy.
* A horde is a large group, often unruly. To hoard is to gather and often references dragons.

I always strive to write (right Wink ) everything on the internet with the correct SPAG.

However, on some forums I regularly post on if someone writes something incorrectly (be it a grammar error or a typo) other users jump on them and make them feel stupid, which is both boring and irritating!

I loathe when people use "text speak" in forums; fair enough in text messages, you are limited to 120 characters and need to cram as much information in as possible; on forums there are no limitations and so your use of the language should flow and be expressive!

A few grammar or spelling errors are OK though, noone's perfect, sometimes people make mistakes even if they know what the right grammar or spellings are!

*frantically checks post for spelling, punctuation and grammar errors!*

dictionary.com and thesaurus.com are everyone's friend Very Happy

Look, the point of my original post is that those who should know better ought to write better. I give everyone else a free pass.

I highly recommend we observe these basic rules:

1. Remember to never split an infinitive.

2. A preposition is something never to end a sentence with.

3. The passive voice should never be used.

4. Avoid cliches like the plague.

5. No sentence fragments.

6. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.

I had a post thought out and written, however, I decided to keep it short and sweet!

"Nothing kills creativity like being overly cautious of grammatical errors."

-Way2Curious

(as far as I know this is an original quote)

In my opinion this is why writers have editors.......... Laughing

I have to say that it is refreshing to hear people talk about grammar at all. Grammar is like etiquette for words. It is useful for clarity and understanding.

If someone comes to my fancy-shmancy dinner party and uses the wrong fork, good etiquette (and my conscience) tells me not to point it out. I don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. I can still be horrified, disillusioned, shocked, up all night wondering how he/she could have made such a dreadful mistake.

But I should keep it to myself.

Now to lighten the mood:

Quote:
Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae.

The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
