Relaxation and meditation are handy things.

Though when I get my wisdom teeth out this semester, I'll need to go under, since they have to cut giant holes in my mouth to get to them. There's no way I'm even attempting meditation for that.

The worst was when I didn't eat anything before going when my tooth was really sensitive, and then finding out after he puts the numbing gel stuff on it (that numbs it for like three weeks, it's great) that I can't eat for twelve hours. The appointment was at 2:00 in the afternoon. ... yeah, that was not a fun time.

Wow, I'm glad meditation works for you.

As for me, hand over the gas.

Scary thing is, the tooth didn't even hurt when I went it... Next time, I'm waiting for something to bother me before it gets extracted. Otherwise, he's gonna hafta take other steps to fix things Smile

Exactly! My supposed cavity wasn't even bugging me. I wonder if there's some kind of dental conspiracy going on. "Oh, gee. Found another cavity. Is this cash or credit?"

When I was about 12, I had a cyst surgically removed from between the roots of two teeth. It was the first time I was ever in the hospital. It involved cutting the gums away from my teeth along the entire upper right half of my mouth, digging a big hole through the bone in the roof of my mouth, and removing it through that, then sewing the gums back together. I couldn't eat solid food for a few months, and I had a very large soft spot in the roof of my mouth for the next few years while the bone grew back.

When I was about 16, at a regular dental checkup, the dentist decided I had another one. I practically wanted to kill myself rather than go through all that again. But I resigned myself to it, and went in for the surgery. They gassed me, and the surgeon grabbed his knives. As my head started to swim, I vaguely heard the surgeon and the nurse arguing...something about x-rays. The next thing I knew, I was coming around again and being sent home. They had looked at the wrong x-ray. I did not have another cyst. I was literally two inches from HORRIBLE and completely unnecessary surgery.

I don't hold this against all dentists, but I DID switch to a new one immediately thereafter.

Call it coincidence or synchronicity, chalk it up to apophenia, but one has to wonder: Could a recent archeological discovery in Egypt suggest that the Order of Denderah reads this board?

"During a visit to the site, Hawass pointed out two hieroglyphs — an eye over a tusk — which appear frequently among the neat rows of symbols decorating the tombs. He said those hieroglyphs identify the men as dentists...

"A towering, painted profile of the chief dentist stares down at passers-by from the wall opposite the inscription..."

Quote:
Saint Peter sat on a stone and wept. Christ came to him and said, 'Peter, why weepest thou?' Peter answered, 'Lord, my teeth pain me.' The Lord thereupon ordered the worm in Peter's tooth to come out of it and never more go in again. Scarcely had the worm come out when the pain ceased. Then spoke Peter, 'I pray you, O Lord, that when these words be written out and a man carries them he shall have no toothache.' And the Lord answered, '"Tis well, Peter; so may it be!'
