After going through LGPedia and finding a note stating Bree never really explains the "Tolstoy Principle" I decidedtodo a little research myself. and after someone made this point on another thread:

and I couldn't find any other theory's on the mention of Tolstoy, I decided to post my findings for you all to ponder/expand upon.

If you look at the Tolstoy quotes they seem to be the background for the "Proving Science Wrong" mini series. Basically stating that science cannot explain everything and one should use religion to answer some questions, he may even be implying that religion should be used to question science.
