This leads me to believe that this was actually a drop site for ANOTHER purpose. There is a website (someone know the link?) that you can post where you are hiding secret "treasures" all ove the country. When someone goes, they can take the treasure but they have to leave something else. Sometimes people put a notebook there to keep a log of who comes by.

While Lad does not believe that this is relevant, he took it. He complained about the dirt the whole time. He's a priss. Wink

This is probably a geocache (see http://www.geocaching.com ). If so, the journal should really be returned, if possible.

The container is a GeoCache.
I have done this from time to time.
Basically you check the coordinates on a geocache.com(or similar) site and find the "cache" via GPS.

I don't know why they would have placed it so close to an existing cache but if we can get the coordinates for the location we could pull up the location via one of the online tracking sites.
The people who visit these caches ussually take the time to put a note on the site they got the cache location from.
There may be something to it after all.

Any more info from the rubbermaid?
Do we have coordinates from google earth?

I believe this is the geocache entry:

A geocache isn't a drop, though...

And yes, I messaged Op.

Perhaps lad can mail the journal back to the person who created the cache. Think about how frustrating it would be if a random person found and took a drop for this ARG. Same deal.

Unfortunately, I believe the logbook for this cache was taken today. See here:

Uh, gee, thanks for telling on us.

Edited to say --

We'll see what we can do. It's not like he took it to intentionally spoil the fun, it's not his fault the thing was right next to the ID. It'd be better if you let HIM contact the person and not try to stir up drama.

Well, considering the last comment on finding it was like a month ago, I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal, kids.

The geocache logbook and container should be returned as soon as possible. I'm a geocacher, and having muggles swipe our caches is no fun. Very Happy

Clearly, not the same as a drop...but the log book should have had some kind of notice on it about being a geocache and that it shouldn't be moved.

Enough about the freggin' geocache already. It'll get worked out. If Lad had known it wasn't for us, he wouldn't have taken it. He's a nice boy and he'll handle it.

Some go for years before they are found again.
That is the way the game is played in geocache.

That said it happens that caches get "muggled" by inocents who know no better.
It is ussually customary to put a note in the cache explaining what it is to void this problem but it could have been removed long ago by another muggle.

Whoever posted the note on the cache site beat me to it.
It is not a stirring up trouble thing at all it is to let the cache owner know they need to put in another log book so others don't feel cheated when they can't log in at the cache and make note of it on the site.
It is grounds for having your cache removed from the site if you do not maintain it.
Whoever made the note was doing the right thing for all involved to avert a problem.
If there is a way to return the log book I am sure the cache owner would apreciate it. Quite often they are family projects and hold some sentimental value.
(Ours does)

Edited to say that It aint a big deal Lad, happens all the time and nobody will be too upset by it.
