Well...its sort of out character for Bree to take a human hostage unless she knows for sure. Even with their carelessness in the past.

Bree has never been the most logical person in the world. For all her intelligence she's still an immature 16 year old who's flipping out under a lot of pressure that she isn't handling well. Bree's character has flip-flopped so much (since her life has been changing so much) it's hard to even really say what's out of character.
