Drop Contents:
1 white envelope
1 plastic bag
8 stones (looks like graphite/granite pebbles)
2 viles (J-5 and J-6)
1 library card catalog
- On the outside of the envelop it says "From Debrowski" ( I hope I spelled that right)
- Inside the plastic bag was the library card catalog
-The front of the library card catalog said "International Conference of Chemical Education The 8th edition, 1985 in Tokyo"
- On the back it says (all hand written): "You should know what to do. I suppose it is time to tell you that what you have been destroying is"
-followed by these letters underneath: IKYOIYK
-then under neath the letters are these numbers: 1(+ 8 ) 3(- 8 ) 5(+ 16) 3(- 16) 6(+ 16) 2(- 16) 7(+ 24 )
Ok going to try to make this as clear as possible lol:
- The front (where the book listing is) of the card in the top left corner is{typed) :

Nice work! Looks like we might need to send someone up to look at that library book. |

I'm just collecting information that may or may not be of use.
IKYOIYK
Atomic numbers of
Iodine (I)
Potassium (K)
Oxygen (O)
Yttrium (Y)
I = 53 K = 19 O = 8 Y = 39
53 19 39 8 53 39 19?
Info on Yttrium Oxide
Formula Y2O3 (sorry no subscript in BBCode)
* name: yttrium (III) oxide
* formula weight: 225.81
* formal oxidation number of Y: 3 _________________ “It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story. ”

Interesting theory... but there's only one problem (and possibly more).
First: 3-8 = -5, not +5
Second: how did you apply the sequence? _________________ A trickster god with a modern twist.

Oh darn it
I just used the number and counted forward if the number was positive, from the back if negative.
that would make it: itnocid

From earlier threads, I believe that the numbers indicate a cipher, in which the letter needs to be moved forward or backwards according to the number in parenthesis.
EEK!! So, that sort of doesn't make sense. Let me try again...each letter has a number assigned to it (a=1, b=2, ect.). The numbers in parenthesis indicate how many letters you should move so, going along with my original number sequence 1(+ would mean that a actually becomes i (I think that's how it works ) |

Thanks Ziola. I am dumb.
So how do you know what letters to use?
How was this used last time?
There is more info coming, however, if a certain firefighter stops goofing off _________________ “It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story. ”

Janes,
That I don't know. I know that it all relates to DNA somehow usually, but other then that I haven't got a clue...as usual |

The numbers tell you which letter to choose from a list of protein names. e.g from the last puzzle:
The DNA translated into this protein chain: H S L H E
7(-11) 3(+1) 4 2 6(-9)
Code: | Histidine_Serine_Leucine_Histidine_Glutamate
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
7 3 4 2 6
|
Which results in IRCIM, and the shifts (-11 1 0 0 -9) then gave XSCID |

edit: I'm sorry. I just realized you were using the last puzzle as an example. I am not smart.
However, I do understand what the numbers do now. Thank you. _________________ “It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story. ”

Hmm I thought I would try a bit of decoding myself, but I'm not sure I'm going about this right.
I took the letters IKYOIYK and applied the numbers to them to get:
I +8= Q
Y- 8 = Q
I + 16= Y
Y - 16= I
Y + 16= U
K + 28= M
So the final answer is QQYIOUM (unless I really suck at counting)
But from here I'm not sure what to do. I thought I would throw it into a tinyurl to see what happens but got nothing. So that isn't it. It isn't a part of a protein sequence either. So I have no idea.
Please tell me if I did it correct. I haven't played much ARGs but this one has a lot of biology in it so I'm really interested now! I have to go and read all the old threads so I can figure out how these puzzles work... |

*is waiting for someone who has a clue how to do this to show up*
I wish someone would make an ARG that I could play...like those hidden picture pages in my son's HightLights magazine |
