'''Bree's religion''' was not directly stated in the series until months after she had been on the run. Many used to believe her to be a member of a [[Thelema|Thelemic]] religion of some sort or Argenteum Astrum, as a picture of [[Aleister Crowley]] is prominently featured in her bedroom. Moreover, the word Thelema is written in Greek (Θέλημα) at the bottom of the page at [http://lonelygirl15.com lonelygirl15.com]. However, Darbyite Designs also appears at the bottom of the page, a reference to the Plymouth Brethren. Crowley was raised in the Plymouth Brethren sect. Both of these references then might not be references to her religion, but to Crowley instead. But also note the head scarf she wears. This is something female Plymouth Brethrens wear when out in public.

Bree spent a long time preparing to undergo a [[The Ceremony (ritual)|ritual ceremony]] related to her religion. In [[The Ceremony Is Tomorrow :)]] Bree tells us that the ceremony will take place on October 12th, 2006 which is also Aleister Crowley's birthday.

Aleister Crowley also talks about secrecy, but the very word "occult" comes from the latin "occultus" meaning "things secret or hidden". It is often used in the medical field, such as "occult bleeding", which would mean bleeding that is not obvious to the naked eye.

In [[I'm Hiding Out]], [[Daniel]] described Bree's religion as a [[Possible influences of Bree's religion#Cults|cult]].

In [[Learning Egyptian]], [[Gemma]] claims that Bree's religion is not a Thelemic religion at all but a secret society called [[the Order]]. The common occurrence of blood rituals in {{wikipedia|necromancy}} may also give us a clue.

==The Hymn of One==

In [[Losing My Religion]], Bree for the first time talks (somewhat) openly about her religion. She says that her [[Bree's parents#Mother|mother]] was introduced to The Hymn of One by a university professor when she was studying at [[Scotland|Edinburgh]]. This religion turned out to be merely a front for the Order, or as Bree puts it, "the recruiting arm". Whatever the Order does, it executes quietly on the side. Bree has not yet expanded on the belief system touted by this "religion", but she does describe the effect it had on her mother. She mentions that her mother had been "looking for answers", and went through some big changes when she joined. According to Bree's father, she used to be introverted but became a "first to pick an argument" person after joining.

The Hymn of One has an official website at [http://www.hymnofone.org hymnofone.org], which was registered on March 31st, 2007 (prior to the release of Losing My Religion) and is hosted at [[lonelygirl15.com]]. At present the website contains very little information, but its in-game features may develop further over time.

== Audition ==
In the video [[Sing With Me]] it was revealed that the Hymn of One was accepting applicants. On their web site at http://www.hymnofone.org/audition was a survey. The survey asks 20 questions to which the answers are strongly agree to strongly disagree and several essay questions. The applicant then receives a score about how compatible they are with The Hymn of One. The answers below yield the highest compatibility. The essay questions do not appear to effect the score.

Pigeon message

First note from [[Mr. Zipp]] was delivered by a carrier pigeon. [[Maddison Atkins |Maddison]] and [[Adam]] found the bird outside Maddison's door. The note was tied to the leg of the pigeon.
One side of the note said:
maddisonatkins@yahoo.com Login immediately. You will know the password

There was a message in the Morse code on the other side:
--... ....- / -.... .---- / -.... --... / ..--- ----- / -.... ..--- / -.... ..-. / --... --... / --... ...--

It translated to hex as:
74 61 67 20 62 6F 77 73

Hex translated to text as:
tag bows

"Tag bows" appeared to be anagram to "two bags".

It was unclear what this meant. However, [[Whiskey]], Maddison's dog, helped to figured it out. Whiskey chewed the note a little and then Maddison noticed that there was some message inside the note as well. So "two bags" were supposed to mean that a note was "double bagged" and had a message inside too.

In the video [[Jonas Sucks]] Daniel finds a package in their car. It includes a set of [[Nancy Drew's Guide to Life|Nancy Drew books]] and a note from [[Tachyon]]. From the start, Daniel suspects that this package contains some kind of clue to guide them in figuring out the password to the [[Bree's disk|encrypted disk]] Tachyon had left [[Bree]].

=Semiotics background=
Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols, both individually and grouped in sign systems. It includes the study of how meaning is constructed and understood. It can represent a methodology for the analysis of texts regardless of modality, which is the particular way in which the information is to be encoded for presentation to humans. For these purposes, "text" is any message preserved in a form whose existence is independent of both sender and receiver. Naming the file "semiotics" could signify that the password to the file already exists in what Tachyon sent Daniel. In this way, Daniel and Tachyon need know nothing about each other to be able to communicate what the password is.

When Daniel read the note aloud in [[Jonas Sucks]] he mentioned that it was a haiku. A haiku is a short poem consisting of three lines. It must have five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five in the third. Tachyon's note had five, seven, and ''six'' syllables respectively, so it was not actually a haiku. This proved to be significant when solving for the password of the file.

Another important feature of the note was the x's and y's written at the top and bottom of the message. On the top-left corner there were 11 x's, on the bottom-right 3 y's.

The note from Tachyon pointed to "where it all started" and capitalized "Drew" in "a subtle clue I Drew". This led to the first part of the password, which was "'''stratemeyer'''" because the Nancy Drew series was started by him. Stratemeyer is an 11-letter word--11 was also the amount of x's in the upper-left corner of the note. The number of y's on the bottom-right of the note was 3, so the second part of the password was 3 characters long. 
Another "subtlety" in Tachyon's note led to the second part of the password. Daniel had incorrectly noted that it was composed like a haiku, with the numbers of syllables per line being 5,7,5, respectively. Her note actually had 5,7, and 6 syllables. These numbers, "'''576'''" were the second part of the password.

About a week later, Daniel found a package in Jonas's car (video [[Jonas Sucks]]). The package contained Nancy Drew books and a note from [[Tachyon]], leading to a [[Semiotics|puzzle]] that allowed Daniel to [[Cracked The File|crack the file]].

When Googled, Theta + Pi, Lambda + Sigma and Omicron + Tau all show different Fraternities. Weither that has any signifigance to understanding the symbols has not been determined.

==How it plays out==
After seeing the files, the meaning of the second set of symbols is unknown. [[Tachyon]] posts a [[Dancing In The Dark|profile update]] that leads to another [[Dancing In The Dark|puzzle]]. The note obtained from that puzzle shows that Tachyon herself is not sure what these symbols mean. It appears that this is the information that she stole from the [[The Action of an Enemy - Be Careful|OpAphid information gathering facilities]] and that she is still trying to figure out what it means.
In [[How Dumb Am I?]], Bree discovers that there is some "artwork" in Jonas's cabin that looks like the Hybrid 3 (Theta+Pi) symbol. Not knowing exactly what the symbol means, she nevertheless links him to [[the Order]] and ties him up.

The Nancy Drew series was created and outlined in detail in 1930 by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, which continued the series after his death.

In the video description to [[Jonas Sucks]], Daniel posted a link to the file, http://tinyurl.com/33s4w2. The file has been uploaded [http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=54391B2B2164E5D8 here]. It is a password-protected .rar file named "53454d494f54494353.rar", which is hex for "SEMIOTICS".
==The password==
The note from Tachyon pointed to "where it all started" and capitalized "Drew" in "a subtle clue I Drew". This led to the first part of the password, which was "'''stratemeyer'''" because the Nancy Drew series was started by him. Stratemeyer is an 11-letter word--11 was also the amount of x's in the upper-left corner of the note. The number of y's on the bottom-right of the note was 3, so the second part of the password was 3 characters long. 
Another "subtlety" in Tachyon's note led to the second part of the password. Daniel had incorrectly noted that it was composed like a haiku, with the numbers of syllables per line being 5,7,5, respectively. Her note actually had 5,7, and 6 syllables. These numbers, "'''576'''" were the second part of the password.
