Hazel Strathcarron was Kate's adoptive mother.

Hazel was a lab worker in the Order's test on trait positive girls. She grew a special attachment to Genevieve and, after learning that her life would be filled with endless tests and studies, she wished better for her. Hazel started a fire at the laboratory and smuggled Genevieve out in the chaos. She then moved to the countryside and raised Genevieve as her own.

Hazel had apparently received letters from Genevieve after she had run away from home, as she knew all of her friends, but none that Kate had never been introduced to. She met Charlie, Gavin, Lauren, and Lee in The Last Work: 8PM, explaining Genevieve's past. She was then murdered by Terrence, in order to lure the K-Team back to her house.
