Transcript

(Jennie sitting on her desk in the Edward Salinas campaign office.)

Jennie: So. I was up all night writing that brief for Mr. Thompson. When I told Jonas and Daniel, they got really worried, I mean, the plan was for me to work here and stay under the radar. Jonas is freaking out. But, I mean, this is an opportunity. The more that Thompson trusts me, the more access I'll have to Salinas. I am worried though, and I haven't even gotten any feedback on my paper yet. I'm thinking I should just go, and not come back.

(Jennie picks up a small "Fight The Order" poster/card, showing it to the camera.)

Jennie: I've brought some of the posters and artwork that you guys have created, and before I go, I'm going to put one of these on every desk. I can't wait to see how Salinas reacts when his staff starts asking him questions about the Order.

(Jennie puts the card down on the desk, and the camera cuts to a side view of her, as Mr. Thompson enters her office, knocking on the open door.)

Jennie: Come in.

Ross: You are interesting.

Jennie: Um, was the brief okay?

Ross: No, it wasn't okay.

Jennie: Oh, why not?

Ross: Lisa, it was superb! ... I was blown away.

Jennie: Oh ... ah, I'm so glad.

Ross: I gave it to the Councilman, and he was blown away too. He called me himself this morning.

Jennie: Wow.

Ross: I think there could be a place in the campaign for you... healthcare, women's issues...

Jennie: Oh, um, wow.

Ross: I like you, I do. So, I booked us a table for tonight 8 o'clock.

Jennie: Oh, I have plans.

Ross: Cancel them.

Jennie: Ahhhh, I kind of have a boyfriend.

Ross: Ohhh, boyfriend. Alas. He's not invited.

Jennie: Oh, ummm.

(Jonas arrives at the open door behind Thompson, knocks, and enters, shaking Thompson's hand.)

Jonas: Hunh, I'm Bill.

Ross: Ross Thompson.

Jonas: Ross.

Jennie: Yeah, this, this is Bill.

Ross: You must be the boyfriend.

Jonas: Ummmmm, yeah. Kinda.

Ross: That's what I hear.

Jennie: Sooo. What are you doing here, Bill?

(Thompson seems to be checking messages on his blackberry or cellphone.)

Jonas: Oh, I came to bring you your lunch. It's tuna, your favorite... see how everything's going down here, wow, huh, this is awesome, this is (Jonas pats Thompson a bit too firmly on the back.) Salinas' headquarters where it all happens, huh, it's great ... really cool.

(Jonas changes tone from his geek act to a little more serious, turning to Jennie.)

Jonas: So, ah, how're you doing?

Jennie: Yeah, I'm great. (taking hold of Jonas' elbow) I'll just see you at home, okay?

Jonas: (returning to geek mode) Yeah sure, sure, I'll ya, I'll see you at home.

(Jonas first starts to salute, then moves toward Jennie awkwardly and stumbles, knocking something to the ground, causing her to crack a smile.

Jonas: (something unintelligible) I didn't see that there.

(Jonas recovers and puts a clipboard on the desk.)

Jonas: Bye (kissing Jennie on the cheek, then exiting).

Jennie: All right.

Ross: It was a pleasure, Bill.

Jennie: Bye honey.

Jonas: (from the doorway) Bye. (mouths the question "honey?" and leaves)

(Thompson and Jennie laugh a bit awkwardly.)

Ross: Our table's at 8.

Jennie: Oh, yeah, I don't really know.

(telephone rings)

Ross: One second. (answering phone) Yeah? ... (thumbs up to Jennie) She's right in front of me... I will tell her. (shuts phone)

Ross: That was reception. Salinas wants to talk to you. It must be about the brief.

Jennie: Oh, when? Right now?

Ross: He's outside, waiting in a car. You can talk to him on the way to the airport.

Jennie: Oh. I I I don't really think that I would have anything to say...

Ross: Lisa, You can't keep him waiting! (Thompson rises to leave.)

(Cut to Jennie alone.)

Jennie: (to self) Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit... (gets up and grabs camera)

(cut to purse-cam view of a black SUV outside)

Jennie: (approaching the car, talking to self) Okay, now or never. (Jennie opens the car door with her left hand, holding a mace canister)

(The purse-cam shows Elizabeth Avery sitting in the back seat of the SUV.)

Elizabeth: You won't be needing that. Please sit down. I need to talk to you. It's urgent.

Jennie: What are you doing here?

Elizabeth: Saving a life.

Jennie: I can handle myself, thanks.

Elizabeth: Not yours. Your friend Emma's.

Jennie: What?

Elizabeth: She's going to die.

Jennie: Why? How?

Elizabeth: The wheels are in motion. It's all set.

(There is a clunk noise as if the door is opening again behind Jennie, then the purse-cam view moves suddenly away from Elizabeth Avery as Jonas pulls Jennie out of the SUV.)

Jonas: Get out of the car! Get out of the car!

Jennie: Jonas... Jonas, wait!

Jonas: Right now!

(sudden cut to black)
