OpAphid is the codename of an operative who has done work for both the Order and TAAG. She once ran the Operation APHID division of the Order, using forceful tactics, drugs, and deception to work against Bree Avery's wishes. Sometime after Bree's death via Ceremony, OpAphid switched techniques and began working for the Resistance with Brother.
+
Tachyon is the codename of an operative who infiltrated Operation APHID as a double agent. The main enemy of OpAphid, Tachyon grew up in a Hymn of One commune similar to Bree and Gemma, but learned the truth about the Order at a young age. Tachyon's family moved away from the commune after learning that Tachyon's sister was being prepared for the Ceremony, and left their dog Sascha behind. Living on the run with a Resistance movement known as the Family, Tachyon interacts in her videos with her partner Brother and the head of the organization, codenamed Mom and Dad.

Discovery of the Family
OpAphid can be traced back to its first appearance, the video You Made the Right Choice, Bree!, in response to Bree's My Difficult Decision video. OpAphid has since posted comments and videos to Bree, Daniel, and Cassie. These are generally warnings, some of them nicer than others, that insinuate that OpAPHID is connected to Bree's religion, and that Cassie and Daniel should watch their step carefully.
+
Tachyon is first introduced when OpAphid informs the viewers that someone had stolen a significant amount of confidential information from one of their information-gathering facilities, and asked us to track the thief for clues about what information had been stolen and where it might be headed. Further search revealed the thief to be Tachyon, a spy for another secret organization known sometimes as The Family, The Bureau, The Ring, or just Mom and Dad. Also, "tachyon" was used as a tag in some of Bree's videos. A user looked up all the strange tags and found that Tachyon's videos were similar to OpAphid with a similar story to Bree. When users subscribed to Tachyon, her videos were pulled until the release of The Action of an Enemy - Be Careful.

Is She Really Missing?
+
For reasons unknown to us, Tachyon has not chosen, or has not been able, to go "home" to Mom and Dad. Instead, she has conveyed her stolen information, as well as anything new that she learns or discovers, through her partner, codenamed "Brother" or "10033." Brother and Tachyon, who are not actually related, communicate through voicemail, YouTube profile updates, and drops, or physical locations where Tachyon leaves items for Brother to recover. It appears that although Tachyon frequently finds Brother irritating, dense, and slow, she does what she can to protect and help him (such as keeping OpAphid from blowing him up, and facilitating his attack on Gemma).
OpAphid logged into her YouTube account on May 24th, 2007, leaving this message:

Tachyon herself is well-characterized by her YouTube tagline about her location: "By the time you know, I'll already be gone." She responds to some people who send her messages via YouTube, but her replies can be witty, helpful, vague, misleading, or simply unrelated to the question asked, seemingly on a whim. She dislikes giving out information about herself or her past, although some of her communication has suggested that she might be connected to the family Gemma talks about in her video "They Disappeared...," even as the information she leaves behind reveals more and more about her own personal story. Tachyon does not appear to stay in one place for any length of time, if she can help it, and is extremely fond of codes and cryptography, which she often employs to protect the information she distributes.

them that way.

The "Rumors of MY death have been greatly exaggerated..." was once thought to be a clue that Brother had not actually murdered Gemma.
+
Tachyon was contacted by Bree after Daniel was abducted by OpAphid and The Cowboy. Bree posted a video pretending that she would give herself up to the Order in exchange for Daniel's safety as part of a ruse orchestrated by Tachyon and Brother. On the day of the exchange, Daniel was successfully rescued, and Tachyon and Brother went on their way. A little over a week later, Tachyon delivered a package to Daniel containing an encrypted file containing information on the Order and their inner workings. After the resulting knowlegde caused a fight between Bree and Jonas, Bree decided to spend time at Tachyon's Training Camp, where she learned basic skills on how to defend herself. She left the training regiment early, however, as she discovers that Daniel and Jonas are in danger.

The message is also speculated to be a Cassie-esque sign off.

Protecting Rachel
Just like her enemy OpAphid, Tachyon logged into her YouTube account on May 24th, 2007, leaving this farewell message:
 +

However, OpAphid has recently emerged with a vengeance toward her "former associates".
+
In July, Linc contacted Brother, believing Tachyon to be dead. Upon receiving the information, Brother got Tachyon to come out of hiding, and sent her a message from Linc containing information on how to help him and Rachel. Less than two months after the message was decoded, Rachel resurfaced on YouTube and assured everyone that she was fine, but revealed that she had fled from Linc. Tachyon has since been assigned to monitor Rachel in Linc's absence using the alias Aly Zarin.

Controversial Identity
On November 21, 2006, The Creators announced that OpAphid is a 100% fan-created Alternate Reality Game, but they liked it so much that they contacted its creator and decided to make it the official ARG of lonelygirl15.
+
There has been much speculation as to the true identity of Tachyon, especially after the video The Human Ransom. A video posted by xitsMx suggests that Tachyon is indeed Cassie, and some fans also think this could be the case.  Others have suggested that she is the girl that Gemma mentioned in the video They Disappeared.... Some have even gone so far as to suggest that it is Gemma herself. There has also been more tentative speculation that Tachyon may be Nikki Bower, and although there are some links and similarities, it is a much more abstract thought to prove.
However, on April 12, 2007, The Creators announced that due to a falling out with Glenn Rubenstein, OpAphid would no longer be the official ARG.
+

While the official ARG, OpAphid kidnapped and brainwashed Daniel.
+
A member of the LG15 community once sent Tachyon a message asking how Sascha was doing. Sascha is the pet dog of the family Gemma mentioned in the video They Disappeared....  Tachyon responded that she hadn't seen Sascha in a while. This confirmed that she was in fact a member of the family Gemma spoke of. However, Tachyon has also said she was never a Ceremony girl, leading people to believe that Tachyon is the sister of the trait positive girl in that family.

+
Recurrences of OpAphid videos
+
OpAphid's videos are layered to say the least.
+
There is the surface message of the written and spoken text, the deeper meanings of the text, the text and audio that takes homework, backwards audio, and hieroglyphs.
+

+
OpAphid also uses a false ending which appears as if the video has ended and gone to the related video links, but then returns to the real video again before ending. Usually the only thing after the false ending, is OpAPHID's logo.
+

+
OpAphid uses video tags, some strange, that often match Bree's, Daniel's, or Cassie's.
+

+
OpAphid agents and enemies
+
OpAphid has two main enemies - Tachyon, and her partner Brother.
+

+
Also, OpAphid has agents that track down BDJ and often other people such as Tachyon, Brother, and Maddison Atkins. Agents include War Pylol, and OpAphid herself.
+

+
Operation APHID
+
The letters in OpAphid are known to stand for the following things.
+

+
A in APHID
+
The A in APHID was solved to be Analysis.
+
<small>
+
*Clue: "The first step toward any solution? The A in APHID, of course."

P in APHID
The P in APHID was solved to be Protect.
+
<small>

*Clue: "...While history is full of subtle clues toward greater secrets, some messages are meant to be taken literally--regardless of any deeper connections we might suspect. Above all others, the P in APHID is our greatest purpose..."

*Corresponding video: You Made the Right Choice, Bree!, with the tags "HID IN APP"
+
*Solution: Protect

*Profile verifying solution: "To PROTECT is our greatest purpose, above all others. The importance of PROTECTION is essential to understand before any further progress can be made."

H in APHID
The H in APHID was solved to be Hinder.

I in APHID
The I in APHID was solved to be Infiltrate.

D in APHID
The D in APHID was solved to be Destroy.

<small>

*Corresponding video: Add Poe Hinder Vilification (from OpAphid agent War Pylol), with the tags "PAID HIND"
+
*Solution: Destroy
+
*Email verifying solution: (from Puzzle (Language Labs)) "In hindsight, it's a miracle we spotted that 'location verified, D in APHID' video in time to arrange for your safe passage to a secure location. Even though there were no casualties when the bomb detonated (sans the corpse we planted to fake your demise), it still doesn't change the fact that it was meant to DESTROY you.</small>
+

+
Op
+
The letters "Op" have not been confirmed, though the common concensus is that it stands for Operation.
+
However, many think it stands for Observe and Pursue.
+

+
Full Solution
+
According to these solutions, OpAphid stands for Operation Analysis Protect Hinder Infiltrate Destroy.
+

+
This solution is much different than the OPAPHID discussed in the official series by Bree and Gemma, where it stood for: Acknowledge their Position and Help Initiate a Dialogue.
+

+
Controversies
+
Not everyone is a fan of OpAphid, however.
+

+
The answer (phone number) to the Set of Five puzzle was kept secret for the first few hours after it was solved (at the request of OpAphid). We are told it was done to maintain the experience for those who wished to solve the puzzle themselves and earn the "well done" first heard upon calling the phone number. This left a bad taste in the mouths of many, both new players who don't understand why people aren't giving out the answers and veterans who aren't used to a PM who locks down their game to quite this level.
+

+
OpAphid has since stated that if there are to be any other "grace periods" on revealing the solution to a future puzzle, they will be limited to a span of 2-4 hours. Recent puzzles have had no such restrictions.
+

+
Gamejacking
+
OpAphid has taken credit for gamejacking Cassie's voice mailbox. Evidence in the video, Cassie Does Not R.I.P. (Rest In Peace) proves she had the passcode, and complete control of the mailbox.

Background

Discovery of the Family

Helping Out TAAG

She left the training regiment early, however, as she discovers that Daniel and Jonas are in danger.

Protecting Rachel

Just like her enemy OpAphid, Tachyon logged into her YouTube account on May 24th, 2007, leaving this farewell message:

Tachyon said:
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.

Less than two months after the message was decoded, Rachel resurfaced on YouTube and assured everyone that she was fine, but revealed that she had fled from Linc. Controversial Identity
