The gauze did seem to indicate that something to soak up the blood was needed. Then again, it might have been there just to attract attention and say 'Hey! Bree's being injected with sketchy drugs! This isn't your average scrape!"

I got a gauze pad the last time I got my flu shot...but that might be me.

Thinking about it though, guaze is more common when you have blood drawn, or when you get an IV?

But Bree is smart and the daughter of a doctor, whe would know the difference right?

Sometimes you can hit veins (size between reg & capillary) when giving a shot and gauze may well be necessary.

Yeah, unless they were using 18 gauge needles to give her the shots (dayum), or accidentally hitting arteries every single time, I seriously don't get what they'd need the gauze for.

I agree that the discussion in the Video thread had some great points, but was hard to wade through. There was a lot of OT stuff going on there ( not all of it pleasant and/or friendly...I might add.) So I responding here. . . . Wow, sorry so long! Surprised

No need to apologize, Macabea. You've raised some excellent points here.

Re: the gauze thing, I assume it was just to call attention to the injections -- although when I get blood drawn at my doc's office, they always put a bit of gauze over the spot with tape, just to make sure nothing nasty gets inside.

yeah but didn't bree say that her dad didn't even know what type of medication he was giving her because the order wouldn't tell him.. so why would they have brochures on them if that was the case?

Well, maybe (1) he was lying, or (2) after Bree decided she didn't want to participate in the ceremony and started refusing to take the injections, he decided to look up what he'd been giving her.

Just a theory.

Oh f*ck, that's so disturbing.

Yeah, that's what I thought when somebody -- can't remember who, guess I've repressed it -- suggested the trauma part.

Really plays into the idea that Bree was/is gonna be used as a Breeder.

Hehe

Bree
Breeder

Okay, yes, smsp but I should still be allowed my fun.

BOT [I seem to be writing that alot lately]

Every time I've gotten shots they've been covered with a loonytoons-themed bandaid. There is also the idea that that particular time they were out of bandaids so Bree's dad comes along and says 'well, there's this gauze left over from work'

If Zosyn really is for Bree's upcoming...trauma [best word I can think of] then it also might make sense to give her Cerebyx because it makes her more obedient. Though if the Order is being careful enough to prescribe both, then I guess they do look after their members, in a very twisted way...

Studied Off Label Uses for Cerebyx:

1. Fosphenytoin was more successfully used to relieve pain refractory to opiates in a 37-year-old woman with neuroma, according to Dr. Gary J. McCleane of the Rampark Pain Center in Lurgan, Northern Ireland. She was given 1,500 phenytoin equivalent units of fosphenytoin over a 24 hour period, producing pain relief that last three to fourteen weeks after each infusion, allowing her to use less opiates. http://www.medic8.com/medicines/Fosphenytoin.html

2. Non-epilepsy: Useful for cardivascular complications with tricyclic antidepresant overdose; trigeminal neuralgia (less effetive than carbamazepine); Wallenberg's syndrome; induces beneficial effects on wound healing; ventricular arrhythmias; control convulsions associated with preeclampsia; epidermolysis bullosa. (from http://www.aesnet.org/visitors/PatientsPractice/aed/aedtable.cfm?drug=Phenytoin

Bold was mine. I am trying to locate the research article concerning wound healing, have not been successfull.

Off Label use for Zosyn:

Other than several research papers discussing co-asministration of Zosyn with another antibiotic...I could not find a specific off-label use.

Antibiotics are typically not suggested for use during pregnancy, nor has any research I have read or examined suggestive that this therapy would be effective in that situation.

As for other suggestiosn that cerebyx could make one easier to control...this is not based on research. There is a remarkable effect on the cardiovascular system (hypotension) but I could not find any suggestion that this medication has any effect on consciousness thinking as other anti-convulsants may (such as Depakote). Cerebyx was studied for anti-manic asministration, but it did not seem to be effective in this treatment.

Ruberic,

Thanks, that's exactly the sort of research I was too lazy to do.

Clearly neither of these drugs was being used as indicated, if they were being given to Bree for weeks/months before said ceremony when both are meant for extremely short-term use. Unnecessary antibiotics just create resistant strains of bacteria and shouldn't be given to a healthy person. And the anti-seizure meds are equally puzzling, unless they were using them to screw up her body enough to actually induce seizures and fake a demon possession or something equally creepy.

And yes, maybe they're just random papers in a doctor's home office, or maybe we weren't supposed to go wild research THOSE exact drugs, because Daniel scooped up paperwork on the actually relevant ones while the camera just happened to show those . . . but this is fiction, so things should in theory always mean something.

Sami:

True, however...in cross studies with placebo, Cerebyx did not fair well, even in the first 60 minutes when the drug is at peak levels in the blood stream. Thus, Cerebyx is NOT recommended for treatment of bipolar (mania) disorders due to this.

However, if one is removed from Cerebyx too quickly (as with most anti-epileptic medicatiosn) it can cause the body to have siezures due to sudden decrease in levels. (The body becomes used to the anti-epileptic medicaitons, and removal of these medicatios may hypersensitize the patient).

We do know that Bree was on this medication for only a short time (which is good since Cerebyx in its injectable form is NOT suggested for long term use).

I'm still working on the connection with iron pills. I know that sometimes epileptic medicatios can wreak havoc with metabolism and such...but dont' know if Iron pills were to boost the Hemaglobin in the blood stream, or to ward off effects of the Cerebyx / Zosyn mix.

Zosyn is very hard on the system in its injectable form from my recollection, and can increase body to oportunistic invasion...and can greatly decrease several normal floura found within the body. So, she most likely had not been on that for very long.

that is, of course, if these meds are the ones being used.
