Well....even though this was gamejacked...

I have had an experience like that before. I was driving home when I was 18 and ran over a cement block that was in the road (it was dark and I didn't see it until the last min). I screwed up 2 of my rims. I got it to a gas station and a guy came and helped me put on my spare and even followed me home to make sure I made it safely. Once I was home, he waved and drove off. I never saw him again.

I had the same type of experience when I ran over a bucket that flew off of another car in front of me. I was on the highway and I pulled over to get it out from under my car and I accidentally locked my keys and cell phone in the car. I started to walk to the closest gas station and a guy pulled up and said he had seen me walking from the other side of the road and that he wanted to help so he drove me to the nearest gas station and even gave me money to use the phone before he drove away. (I know hitch hiking is bad but I was desperate!)

But those are just a couple of experiences I've had. Of course, I'm always trying to do nice things for people too!

sorry that was long!

not many people are nice.
It is refreshing when you meet a truly nice person.

Well, before Christmas, I guess you could say I was the nice person. We were getting a new dog, so I went to Petco to get a collar, leash and stuff. The poor cashier looked exhausted and mentioned that it had been a long day and he would love a coffee. So, I ran to Dunkin' Donuts while I was waiting for the people to bring my new puppy and bought the poor guy a coffee to surprise him. I like doing things like that, reminding people that there are small pockets of niceness out there still.

One summer, on my way to the store there was a little old man broken down on the side of the highway. It was really, really hot outside. I stopped and he said someone should be there for him, soon. I went on and at the next gas station I bought him some water and a cup of ice and took it back to him. It was just too hot for him to be outside in the sun like that. When I came home from the store he was gone.

Definately. Thats why it surprised me so much.

It put me in a good mood for the majority of the day.

I wish more people did something nice, just randomly like that.

It was unplanned..it wasn't like something I asked someone to do, you know?

k, my purse was stolen a few months back and apparently thrown into a dumpster, i cancelled all of the cards immediately so they were of no use and no cash was in my wallet - someone sent all of the credit cards, drivers license, everything back to me in an envelope with a return address saying they had found them in a dumpster. i thought that was rather nice.

although my purse was not returned....dang i loved that purse!! Sad

This isn't really much, but my friend's Gary, Jimmy, Jason, and I were playing soccer last week and this dude Mark kicks the ball like hell. When he kicks, he kicks hard and the ball was about to hit me straight in the face (I had tripped and sprained my ankle , so I was on the ground not able to get up and run) and Jason came over actually did the whol cliche dive in front of the "bullet" thing. It was funny. But, it wasn't too funny afterwards because the ball actually broke his nose. I apologized, and he said it was worth it. He's so nice. He's like my Daniel.

One January, several years ago, my friend and I decided to take a road trip to see a concert. The weather was bitterly cold, and the town we went to had some kinda ice storm crash there. We arrived early so we could pick up our tickets, do some shopping, etc. After we got our tickets, we were walking/skatingintheparkinglot back to my friend's car when she realizes her keys are still in the ignition, doors locked, no spare, you get the pic. Being o so young (and so broke), we didn't know what the hell we were gonna do. Then we see, from across the parking lot, a tow truck crunching down the street. Surprisingly, he turned into the lot, crunched his truck near us, and parked a few spaces down from us. Meanwhile, I'm trying to run to him. When I reached his truck, he opened the door, and before I could say anything, he grabs a Slim Jim and says, "Where are y'all parked?" That freaked me out, but it was all good until he says, "Oh, power locks, I don't know if I can do this or not." Then he rambled off the technical reasons he might fail, what he might break, and my friend told him to do it anyway. He got it first try. He would NOT let us pay him (we were gonna forego shopping cash). Our butts were SO saved by this man. Wish I'd gotten a business card or something from him. Confused

I agree that these are all very nice stories. I just find it a bit disheartening that these kinds of occurances are apparently so rare that, when they happen, someone feels the need to post about them.

Maybe it's because I'm a bit older than some (42), or maybe it's because I grew up in a small town, but I kind of live my life this way without even thinking about it. I hold doors. I say "thank you". I'm friendly to strangers. I stand up when a woman comes to the table. Every woman over the age of 21 is "ma'am" to me until I'm told otherwise. Every man over 21 is "sir" to me. I stop to help people in any kind of distress reflexively.

I'm not looking for any kind of kudos. That's just the way I was raised I suppose. I just wish that things like this were the rule rather than the exception. The world would be a much nicer place. The Golden Rule and all that.
