That's a cool theory. I'll keep it in mind, but for now I'm going to agree with those that think Daniel is just the greatest person in the world.
If he was assigned, it couldn't have been by the Order. That would make very little sense. But I really think he is the most important aspect of this story because he is not affiliated with the Order or any other organization. Being Bree's only connection to the world outside her upbringing and belief system, he has singlehandedly shaped the outcome of events and Bree's decisions. The Order would have succeeded a long time ago in whatever the heck they're trying to do, if it weren't for Daniel. Bree is not very independent because of her sheltered lifestyle, and Daniel goes with his gut feeling, very rarely after any hesitation. Of course, there's Jonas, who presumably has no connections to the Order (thus far), but he lives a sheltered life as much as Bree does. So Daniel is the everyman. He is the good guy.. your average teenager.. the only character that we really trust and who is genuine. He is direct and honest, and that's refreshing next to the other characters in this show. A boy who grew up in typical American society, who has not been influenced at all by the Order, is the ONE obstacle that the Order did not expect to face. They don't know how to handle him, because they can't control him like they can Bree, who they have controlled from childhood.
I should shut up now.
The point is, I hope Daniel is really just a genuine friend.
Though that is an interesting possibility.
To make an (unnecessarily) long story short, I really love DanielBeast. *sigh* _________________ "Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof."

I totally agree. I think Daniel is a brilliant character, and brilliantly acted. You can't tell where the actor ends and the character begins. Sometimes with the other characters, they kind of feel like they're acting and you're reminded it's a show, but I can't imagine Daniel being anyone except Daniel. I like how you put it, that the ONE obstacle that the Order didn't expect to face was this entirely average, teenage boy. IMHO, it would make more poetic sense that Daniel, as Bree's champion and guide, is so normal and so average when nothing else in their world is; that he is doing extraordinary things not because he is terribly extraordinary, or acting on behalf of external forces, but simply because he chooses to, because he wants to, because of love. |

This is an interesting idea, but I highly doubt that that's what's going on. Daniel doesn't seem the type to have been very popular in high school (he's good at computers, seems decently intelligent, and let's face it, not the most attractive guy in the bunch. He would have been hated at my high school, and let's face it, all high schools are the same.), and outsiders in thehighly stratified society of high school have less to loose by befriending the weird new kid. Bree is also extremely attractive and Daniel's a teenage boy, need anything more be said?
I like to think that Daniel's just a nice, maybe slightly hormonal guy, not some kind of hired protector or bodyguard. I'd like to think he's doing what he's doing because he genuinely cares (or l'cares, as i believe he put it), for her. _________________ "An alien made love to my weedwacker" -- Actual Weekly World News Headline. |

this might explain Bree's parents telling her to stay with Daniel. There seems to be a lot of emphasis of that aspect of the note from her parents. |

I don't think he looks that bad.
Correction: I think the fish-lens of the webcams make him look absolutely horrible, and emphasize all his bad points like magnifying his big nose and his gross teeth and his misguided attempt to grow a (white) vibe patch.
BUT... in the videos where the lens isn't distorting his face, and in interviews where they use normal camera lens, he's actually very good-looking.
I don't think he was preppy or popular in high-school, but I think he was the kind of guy that was liked by everyone. You know, the kind of guy who wasn't the Alpha Dog, and wasn't completely outgoing, and probably wasn't in your close-knit circle you went out with every Saturday, but you'd definitely say "hi" to him in the hallways and talk with him if you saw him during class and at lunch. He probably didn't make fun of people, and was content to go with the flow if he agreed with it and go against the flow if he didn't. He obviously had friends and a social life outside of Bree (hence his graduation party, the party Bree snuck out to go to, and Bree and him hanging out with Paul and Andrea) but he hung out with Bree all the time because he chose to. I would imagine that nobody at his school made fun of him except in a good-natured joking kind of way, and if you polled the jocks on what they thought of him they'd all be like, "yeah, daniel, he's a good guy". |
