Okay so we've made connections to comic books within the series before. So being that I've been having a complete case of insomnia, I decided to look into some lists of comic book characters. When I looked up 'comic book characters' on Google I found some site about religions in comic books, different comic book characters religions etc. which was kind of strange. (its this one, by the way:http://www.adherents.com/lit/comics/comic_book_religion.html#other)
So we've had the reference of Jonas> Bruce Wayne
Apparently Tachyon was the name of a comic book character (I just found these things googling)
Plus other references you can fill in, I'm sure.
Thor is a comic book character
There are apparently villians named "The Deacon" and "Deacon" (which I found out from the massive list of characters this site contains, and is probably a complete coincidence.)
Anyway, one of the Xmen comic characters name is "The Beast" and on his page they had this little comic snippet
For some reason this just reminded me of the whole idea that perhaps there are specific traits for those who are chosen for the ceremony/ why Bree was possibly taken and put under different guardianship as a child.
The strip is out of context, but from what I gather it relates to superheroes being abducted for certain religious traits.
What else?
Agh. This all probably means nothing, I just think it's a funny coincidence, I think the Creators are comic book fans even if they didn't conciously think of some of the coincidences that pop up.
Seriously my brain is fried from lack of sleep, so maybe this is all overanalyzation but I figured since there have been comic references before I'd put them out there.
My eyes are crossing.
I'm not sure this has anything to do with the plot, it probably doesn't, so if you want to move it or merge it or even delete if decided it has nothing to do with anything feel free. |

I don't think that this is related to be honest (the religious stuff, I mean; the Parallax thing maybe could be; I'll get to that further down). That strip is from Infinity Crusade #1, a six-issue limited series in which a being called the Goddess rounds up all the superheroes of strong religious or spiritual conviction and convinces them that she's going to make the universe a better place if they'll help her.
What follows is that she more or less brainwashes many of them into fighting for her against the other superheroes while she puts in motion a "holy mission" to eradicate all life in the omniverse (she wanted them to defend her while she carried out her plan). She believed that every living thing is tainted by its very nature, and that she had to "purify" it all by burning it in a cross-dimensional conflagration of the cosmos.
The brainwashing thing is somewhat similar (with Daniel), but these superheroes that were taken were adults with previously established ties to religion or at least spirituality. Also, if I remember right, the heroes who went to her side had to willingly agree to help her before they were brainwashed (though it's possible she was influencing them even then).
Anyway, my point is I don't believe it's comparable because children obviously don't have religious convictions. Especially infants (which Bree presumably was when she was taken), but even older kids up to a certain age can't make a mature choice about something like that. Most "religious" children are just whatever their parents teach them to be.
Also, I don't think Daniel would have willingly agreed to help OpAphid for any reason.
Whatever makes Bree special to the Order must be something physical that may have a religious or spiritual significance to themselves (assuming they are at all religious and don't just use that as a front). But if that's true, then the religious conviction is theirs and not an aspect of the kids they take.

Parallax was the name used for Hal Jordan (perhaps the best known Green Lantern) when he became a villain. It was retconned years later that he had actually been possessed and controlled by a parasitic entity during that time.
In the case of the new OpAphid arc, the term may just refer to the optical illusion of an object changing position based on the position of the observer changing (perhaps to imply a different perspective is needed on someone's part). However, I think it might be worth considering possible that it's a reference to Daniel's "possession" by OpAphid (making him a "villain"). Also, she has spoken through him. That somewhat implies the kind of parasitic relationship Hal Jordan had with his possessor. |
