lol, I'm just saying up to this point, they have used a lot of things true to fact, so we could figure it out. Next to Bree's religion (which for understandable reasons they had to fabricate).

Yeah, but doesn't daniel have other things to be freaked and worried about? Like, uhhh, he was kidnapped? By a crazy group? and days of his memory are erased?

instead he almost sounded like a PA announcement. And it's great he came to a revelation that he has a problem after 2 drunken experiences in like, what, 4 months? I guess it just doesn't read true to life. Maybe he had such a bad experience and he's not the type to blame others and is just blaming his drinking for this happening. Except, with actual alcoholics, convincing them to give up drinking is difficult even when they hit rock bottom and they will look for almost anyone else to blame for their situation - and here is daniel with the whole op ahid to blame and he blames himself for being irresponsible. Anyway, sorry about my little rant. Something didn't sit well with me, and i'm not sure how to explain.

I don't think alcohol was the trigger for the state alone. Blackouts, sure, but alcohol in so much excess that it woulc cause a 5 day blackout would have a HELL of a hangover period and be extremely harmful to your health.

Yeah, but we also do a very good job of suspending disbelief. Let's face it, it's not likely that the "Human Ransom" vid would happen in real life but I'll bet every single one of us cheered (even if it was on the inside) when the Tachyon music started playing.

Speaking from experience, props to SapereAudeo. Very well said. Its also about the choices you make and the ability to reason you abandon, when you drink excessively, or "binge drink". Daniel is taking ownership of what his actions caused for him and others. I think this video is very real in that aspect.
No offense sweetavenue to your opinion, but not all alcoholics need to hit rock bottom and blame everyone before choosing to deal with the consequences of their drinking. Sometimes clarity comes from scaring the shit out of yourself, and realizing the mistakes you make when you drink. Believe me, I've been there. Rolling Eyes

I swear, that would make so much sense.

Maybe Daniel managed to resist them for a while, and managed to send the key to Bree

That would be so awesome

I can respect that, but I still don't think this would lead the average person to assume they have a problem so early in the experience. He was homeless BEFORE he turned to alcohol, so "rock bottom" is kinda hard, lol.

Technically alcoholics are...addicted to alcohol. He wasn't even drinking in a routine. He had two encounters with alcohol in 4 months. He binged twice.

It sounded like the end of an episode of full house where they wrap everything up too nice, and a problem that takes months to develops develops in the course of a few days. I hope the creators didn't intend this episode to be a psa or a after-school special.

I am surprised there are still people on this thread who don't know that POW means prisoner of war. A few people were asking in the beginning, it was answered, but then I just saw two posters who didn't know on page 7 and 8 Shocked

I truly don't want to put anyone down. I'm just surprised that anyone wouldn't know what most would consider such a common term. I can't even put it down to an 'age thing' like when some posters weren't familiar with the Zapruder film after Bree's dad was shot.

I do understand what you are talking about and that would be annoying. The only thing that stops me from making that judgement is that I've known so many college students who, after a really bad experience have made similar "I just scared the hell out of myself. I am never drinking again." speeches (and that's without being kidnapped and maybe probed and mentally date raped Wink ). Seriously, a week of his life missing and seeing that video (if he's seen it yet) probably scared the crap out of him. I mean, 'mad love for P. Monkey?' Could you drink after saying that?

...The only problem i can see with this theory is that we really don't know when else he may have been drinking. Yeah, we have only seen 2 public binge drinking episodes... but how many times has he maybe hidden drinking (as most alcoholics or even semi-alcoholics do?). How many times has he maybe swigged something regularly to keep going or dull his feelings? He's definately had previous disappointments regarding his feelings for Bree and gone through some pretty streesful and fearful times, and we have all seen his mood swings, so it's entirely possible that this problem has been around for a while.

Anyways, I like the vid. I understand a lot more about Daniel and his personality and where he's coming from - whether or not he's been a regular drinker or is just riddled with guilt that he watched with disdain his parents solution to life was through drinking, and then when he was down he went and did the same... and then put himself in a situation where he was kidnapped and gave away who knows what and has now put his friends in danger and caused them to all have to move on because he might have given away their location.

Personally I think it's the latter... but we really don't know enough to make judgements about what he should be feeling and why Smile
