Yeah, you're right. A ring is just a ring. So the woman shouldn't be obligated to wear it either. Razz

I don't wear one and my hubby couldn't care less.

Okay I don't think this is just about a silly ring though. The members of the Order seem to be geared away from romance, IMO. Bree's mom and dad got up and left the house and were never seen together again. Her dad was wandering about on his own just before he got killed. And he evidently told Bree some nasty things about her mom, since she won't even talk to or about her. It does not appear that they were in love, to me.

Orrr, maybe they were in love, but being a part of the Order tore them apart.

Bree's mom was more dedicated to her religion than to her family (or just too scared of the Order to take a stand against them).

Until we know what Bree's Dad actually told Bree about her mom, I don't think we can judge her too harshly. Maybe he just told her that her mom hated her stupid puppets. That could get her in a real snit.

Wink

Seriously though, I don't think that we've had enough exposure to the Order to make a blanket statement that they are against romance. We've only really seen one Order couple -- Bree's parents (and we've never actually seen her mom).

The other Order characters are "on the job" when we see them. We know nothing about their personal lives. We have no idea what the ceremony is or isn't or how it is affected by romance, besides the fact that Bree took a purity oath.

I know a lot of Catholic kids who took purity oaths, that doesn't mean the Catholic church is against romance, you know what I mean?

I just don't think there is enough evidence to support this either way.

I didn't mean that they are AGAINST romance. I just meant that romantic relationships are generally not a priority among the Order. The girls seem to be brought up differently, and thus fail to feel romantic emotion as most people do. Look at Tachyon. She was brought up a child of the Order, and she still struggles with romance today. Though we do not know much about her, she has implied that she and Brother have had romantic relations, but she does not appear very open about it. I'm just saying there's a lack of expressive emotion. I did not mean that the Order shuns romance. They're people, so I assume they fall in love, just like all people. It kind of happens. But they aren't brought up the same, so it's different. You know what I mean? I'm sorry I'm having trouble putting my thoughts into words here.

Wow thats good. Maybe, since they both were in the cult thing, the cults main people paired up like really good people to take care of a child as if it were their own. And dont necessarily have to be married.
I mean, they are both geniuses and stuff...

Well, we know that Bree's dad was a doctor of some kind, and that he did laboratory work. He also taught her all about history and science, so yes, I'd say he must have been pretty smart. Her mom, however, never showed an evidence of exceptional intelligence, just a fiesty personality.. Smile

Well, they aren't too big on romance, that's all. Like JustAnotherLonelyGirl said about Tachyon.

But I think the Mom definitely had the power in this relationship, and I'm not sure that they really loved each other a lot...

But as someone said, we don't know much! I wish we had a tape of that entire conversation... we'd go crazy with it!
