I hadn't logged in for a while, and had some catching up to do... with watching a number of the videos all at once something came through very clearly: character development is not the writers' strong suit.

The most recent video "Men are from mars" ignores
1) that Jonas was characterized as "Dr. Jonas" because he had been trying to get Bree to talk about her feelings after her father was killed;
2) that Bree was the less emotionally expressive one, preferring to talk to her stuffed animals and retreat to her her room rather than discuss things;
3) that Daniel had just said his self-exploration (re: his parents' sobriety and its affect on him), was "Jonas getting to him", i.e. Jonas was the introspective/analytical, emotionally expressive one of the two, and Daniel was getting into being more expressive while Bree was still cut off and in avoidance.

Now "she's the female and so she's introspective and emotionally expressive and Jonas and Daniel are males so they don't discuss their feelings"?? (By the way, in the words someone wise whose name I don't recall, men are from earth, women are from earth: deal with it)

The characterization is suddenly sprung. Maybe several different people who don't communicate with each other are writing the story.

This series has potential and I wish the best for everyone involved, but characters and characterization are what make any story, movie, etc. truly memorable and I hope the creators/writers will keep the strengths they have and seriously look at improving the characterization.

I probably won't come the site for another month or so, but I'm hoping to find that the story has developed with depth and kept the initial magick.

Bravo for the considerable lot you do really well... and Best wishes to you!

I'm not so sure this is a sign that the writers have trouble with characterization as maybe it's just another sign of Bree's narcissistic naivete.

Agreed.

Agreed. Though it seemed like she even ignored the plushies at that point.

Very strongly agreed. As I listened to her talk I was thinking "You're shitting me, right? There's no way you're serious."

Very, very, very, very strongly agreed, and thank you. Let's just hope John Gray and Deborah Tannen are reading this.

OK, you two, I don't get this. To me, teenagers don't really know who they are, and this group acts like typical teenagers (Although Jonas and Daniel should be coming out of it soon).

Teenagers are emotional screwed up, as well as having the inability to see how they come across to others. Unselfishness is learned, not inherent.

As far as Jonas not wanting to talk about it, maybe he wants to let Daniel cool down some. I mean, truly, talking to him at this point would be totally useless. Also, Bree is sticking that camera in his face; this is not conducive to honest conversation. Furthermore, I think they both want Bree badly, and men will go to war over a girl. Maybe they both sense that the wind has changed, and there is nothing to be resolved; the girl has been the dividing line, and it's clearly there between them. In this regard, there is some truth to what Bree is saying. Men will not talk to other men when they both have the same strong feelings for a particular girl (Although Bree doesn't get this part). If they do talk, it usually comes to blows.

Bree is being narcisstic, naive Bree, as you said Lurker. That girl doesn't change. She has a princess complex, and has no idea of how life/love/relationships really work. She can't see past her own nose, and she's always been that way. She also thinks she can fix any situation, but she usually has the opposite effect. That is why I want to smack her upside her head sometimes, and say, "Wake up". However, in her defense, she was dealing with the death of her father, and digesting the direness of her situation when she withdrew. Under these circumstances, I think many people would want to hibernate for a while.

Rebuttal anyone?

She's growing up. And therefore her character is shifting. I don't understand the problem here?
People change. They grow and they evolve.
And considering what has happened with her, how can you expect her to be the same as she was in the beginning?

And as for Daniel and Jonas, Daniels throwing a hissy fit and Jonas is reacting by throwing one right back.
That pretty much explains their behaviour, from what I can see.

People have many sides to their personalities. Is this just reality (I know lg15 isn't reality but it's supposed to be portrayed in a more 'realistic' manner, yes?) to me or does anyone else agree with the fact that peoples personalities can change based on the situations a person is put in? Maybe not the core of who they are as a human being, as easily, but at least on the surface.

And before a certain point in the series, we were mainly exposed to Brees more lighthearted side. When her father died, her being antisocial was perfectly understandable.

I think maybe the 'ransom' with Tachyon gave her a new outlook, and a new attitude towards everything.

When Bree was at home playing with her stuffed animals, she would get in trouble with her mother for expressing too much emotion because it was seen as 'weakness', as Daniel informed us.

She's not in that situation anymore.
She's learning to adapt to her new life. Which is very much different from her old one.

And... and.... pie.
Yes, pie.
I said it.

(I've been up too long for my own good).

Not only that. You have a group of kids that are stuck in a remote location together with not much distraction. Anyone in that situation knows that it's ripe for irritation and annoyance. People start getting on one another's nerves. The littlest things begin to peeve. Not only that, they're under stress. They're waiting for the axe to fall. They don't know when or if the Order is coming for them. What seems clear to us watching isn't necessarily obvious to people embroiled in the situation. I think that characters are developing on cue.

And I'm waiting impatiently to see where all of this is going. lol

C'mon already!!! (You know I'd be even more upset if it was all over.)

Maybe the purpose was irony? Either way, I agree, and in my opinion, that was one of the stupidest mini-plots to date, unless there's something I'm not getting.

I'm betting: (1) irony, and (2) showing that Bree still has some growing up to do (if this is seriously the way she was viewing the situation), and (3) that people do have different sides to their personalities.

I mean, lesbians are process queens, but even we get sick of processing our feelings for hours on end, and go off to take a hike or play foosball (or post on this forum).
