Othello, but that was AGES ago and I was an extra. We did a musical based on The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, I played the Queen. We did Grease (Who hasn't?) and I was Sandy (which was so much fun) and then a few highschool productions that are far less well known.
We're looking into doing Rent soon, just in our theatre here, because it's easier to do on a low budget. I'm vying for Maureen, and there's only one other girl that they're considering, and she can't hit all of the notes in Over the Moon, so it looks good.

*Nudge Nudge* Maybe you could use one of my monologues to audition?
ROFL! Jk...the first one I wrote I actually used for an audition for Guys and Dolls...I got nathan....my favorite play I have been in has got to be How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
I was J. Pierrepont Finch....it was glorious.

I'm so jealous! And I can't believe you can hit those notes. I have to go into falsetto just to sing "Out Tonight". Mimi is my favorite character. I'm trying to get tickets to see it this weekend.
Yeah, Rent seems a low budget show. It almost looks stripped. I guess ever since I took a semester studying technical theatre, I never look at staging again.
BTW, if you end up getting Maureen, go all for it! One Maureen I saw seemed afraid to be ridiculous. That kinda ruined the character for me. But, of course, Idina rules!

Cast:
Philosopher
[LIGHTS UP.]
[We see a Philosopher (either a man or a woman, gender is irrelevant) standing in on an empty stage lit only by a single spotlight. The Philosopher is partly speaking to the audience, but also partly simply musing to him or herself, and is free to move about the stage as they feel it is appropriate. After a few moments of silence, the Philosopher suddenly breaks the tension:]
Philosopher: What is “acting”? [A beat] Isn’t it really just lying? Don’t we all lie every day of our lives? I mean, when you’re at the office and your boss Tim comes down the hall and smacks you on the arm and says “Hey there, Jim-bo,” don’t you force smile and a laugh and call him “Tim-bo” even though you know your name is Bob, and hell, you know that he knows you name is Bob? Isn’t that acting? Or is there something more that distinguishes between every other schmuck on this planet and an “actor”? I guess the real difference is the motive behind the lie; an actor lies out of a love for the lie. He, or she, lies not to gain anything for themselves, in fact, being an actor takes more out of a person than it gives to them, but rather, they lie for the benefit of others. There is one other factor that really separates acting from base lying; an audience knows that the actors are lying. They choose to believe the lie for the sake of entertainment. So then, an actor is an actor not because he or she acts, but because those being lied to choose to believe the lie. Therefore, no one can choose to be an actor, they must be appointed to that office.

I LOVE Idina...she is my idol...really. I think my dream would be to play Elphaba in any rendition of Wicked. That would just be amazing.
My voice actually surprised me. I used to sing in my choir as an alto, because I'd never really sung properly before, and I had no idea what I could do, so alto seemed the easiest option. Then my teacher was hearing me singing the soprano parts accidentally and he took me into a little soundproof room and tested me (most terrifying event of my life) and decided I was a Spinto Soprano and had "no right" being in the alto section. Ahaha.
Then, in 10th grade, my drama teacher announced we were doing a musical and auditioned us based on the notes we could hit without going into falsetto and I beat out everyone. It was really strange, because I had no idea how high I could go.

Oddly enough, I can sing some pretty high notes....Close to two C's above middle-c...and I am a Baritone naturally.

Yea, I have pretty good control...I can go down to about a C below middle C in falsetto, not much power in there though. Without falsetto (and with a lot of straining) I can hit about a F above middle C...My comfortable range is one octave below mid C (thats the high end, at least)

| I AM IN LOVE WITH SPRING AWAKENING!!!!!!!! wonderful musical, ironically i've had "The bitch of Living" stuck in my head all night. They're holding open auditions in NYC for 16-21 yr olds soon ...i'm not sure the date or place, my best friend is auditioning for it he's the one that intruduced me to it! |

I have that song on my IPod, too. One day I was really mad, and listened to that one song for an hour and a half consecutivley. Really cools off the brain. Any info on the auditions, like where and when?

Lonelyelendi, I want to commend you on another well written monolouge. Do you write "apostrophe" scenes as well?
Shoot, I can't get anywhere near those cities. I'm gonna have to find a way to get to these auditions since our local theatre still isn't up and running.

An apostrophe scene is like a monolouge, but they're speaking to someone who is not on stage, or is dead. Example, Julius Caeser. There was an apostophe scene with, Titinius I think, speaking about Cassius, who was dead.
