The reference to "The Spider's Tavern" is apparently a reference to this:

"Jára Cimrman ['jaːra 'ʦɪmrman] is a Czech fictional character created by Jiří Šebánek and Zdeněk Svěrák. He was one of the greatest Czech playwrights, poets, composers, teachers, travellers, philosophers, inventors, detectives and sportsmen of the 19th and early 20th century.

Cimrman made his first appearance on a regular radio programme Vinárna U Pavouka ("The Spider's Tavern") on December 23, 1966. Although he was originally meant to be just a caricature of the Czech people, history, and culture, he became an immensely popular character of modern Czech folklore, and an artificial national hero."

I think the first question must be related to this:

But reading it is hurting my brain a little

I'm a philosophy student, so the first question is very easy for me. As for the second, all I'm coming up with for The Spider's Tavern is the english translated title of a Czech radio show. I don't know anything more about the guy that made his first appearance there, but I'm still digging.

Alternatively, The Spider's Tavern is an anagram for "Raped Event Shirts" or "Raped Shriven Test" or "Advent Terser Hips" or even "Aphids Revert Nest" or "Aphids Server Tent" (is the HSOA site run by aphids in a tent?)

Anyway, we'll see where this goes.

Jára Cimrman is a made up person that has almost become real because of how important he seems to be to the Czech people. Clearly the fact that he is a made up person links him to lonelygirl.

I just need to wrap my head around the belief stuff. Maybe true belief, not necessarily justified true belief can make someone real.

hmmmmmm.... looks like the answer to the question is kind of "still under discussion" in the academic world. How do we answer that? We write an essay?

I am thinking that Ms Kelly is more interesting in starting a discussion group for these ideas than simply looking for a specific answer, but I could be wrong.

I like it though because I am fascinated by the whole lonelygirl thing. The creators are saying that they are experimenting with a new art form. Jam Cimmerman does seem to contratict that statement.

Is this tied into the OpAphid videos? They are fond of anagrams for communicating with one another. This would be an interesting twist...

I know! For me, too. I remember now how interesting I thought it all was, and how frustrated I would get when I would try to bring it up in small talk, lol.

I never was very good at small talk. Wink
