Daniel = DanielBeast
Bree = Gabriel
No one really knows what Bree stands for...but what if it stood for Gabriel? Given all the biblical references so far...this just seemed to fit.
Any ideas? |

Interesting...I had never thought of Gabriel.
John Owen is apparently a famous Bible scholar, and I think there was an Owen in the Old Testament. None of my searches have turned up a Bible connection for Purple Monkey, though. _________________ President of the Owen Fan Club |

Rick9955 wrote: | I got it! They're references to biblical/mythological figures. They fit into the characters perfectly - and maybe reveal some clues the the plot??? Check it out:
Bree is a common short name for Gabrielle, a Hebrew name meaning "Hero of God" or "God is my strength". She was an angel and one of god's main messengers. Though it's also short for other names, consider: The swimming area in the video is in the San GABRIEL mountains, near San Gabriel dam and San Gabriel reserviour in San Gabriel canyon. Maybe they picked that area as a clue to the name?
Daniel was a prophet/soothsayer who recorded Gabrielle's words, notably on armageddon, in The Book of Daniel (ie Daniel's videos?)
. I saw a reference to him as a "revealer of mysteries". "He records signs seen by himself and he is unable to understand their meaning. Now he himself needs an angelic interpreter." (from myjewishlearings.com)
Cassie is short for Cassandra = Greek name meaning "prophet of doom".
There must be clues in here:
Gabrielle fortold the birth of Jesus, and in Islam was the medium through which god revealed the Q'ran, and is also a spirit of truth. She once fell into disgrace (ie out of god's favour) for not obeying a command - was this depicted in the sneaking out subplot? She also blew the horn announcing the judgement day. Gabrielle is associated with the element water ("when I'm offered swimming, nothing better get in my way")
Daniel ("God has judged") was one of the Jews exiled in Babylonia. There's something about him escaping god's anger - "when a land sins against Me, these three alone, Noah, Job, and Daniel, by their righteousness would be able to escape the divine anger." Daniel 's life falls into peril several times, but god saves him because of his piety.
Image of Gabrielle - look like anyone we know?

I agree with you aguy but infact angels are sexless. They do not reproduce, although almost all angels are portrayed as men because they have 'masculine responsibilities' such as killing or leading.
Keep in mind that in biblical times only men had responsibilities. Women were restricted to making bread. |

I see what you're saying. Still, is it right to turn Gabriel into a girl? I mean, if the Hebrew uses the masculine pronoun, is it right to change it to a feminine pronoun simply because we think we know what the writer meant (or would have meant if he/she lived in a different time)? _________________ "... in my mind and in my car. Girls use boys names all the time now and vice versa. Although I see where you are coming from I think the gender origin of the character names are irrelevant. |

If a girl uses a boy's name, then it's a name that's used for boy or a girl. That's different than using a masculine pronoun for a girl, or a feminine one for a boy.
Thus, the pronoun usage, not the gender origin of the name, is what I was referring to. _________________ "... in my mind and in my car. We can't rewind, we've gone too far." |

It doesn't matter if the actual biblical gabriel was a boy angel or girl angel. The name "Gabriel" can still be used for a girl or for a boy. |

That's true. "Bree" could still refer to Gabriel, even if Gabriel was a boy. Just was kinda strange referring to him as a girl. Have this picture in my mind of this huge, muscular angel with a pink bow in his hair. _________________ "... in my mind and in my car. We can't rewind, we've gone too far." |

Bree is usually short for Brianna...
But Gabriel makes more sense, with the bibical reference.
Lucy is often used in religious fiction (7th Haeven, Narnia..)

Gabriel was portrayed as a girl in Constantine with Keanu Reeves. Doesn't actually have anything to do with lg15, but I thought I'd throw it in there. |
