Well, here's the excitement that happened to me the other day; I'm currently typing with a gimp left thumb, and I'm hoping that I won't lose the thumbnail...
Puppy got hold of a chicken bone 2 days ago. Since dogs can choke on chicken bones, I panic and go after her to try to get it from her. She of course goes into standard "I WANT IT AND YOU CAN'T HAVE IT" mode, trying to dive under my bed. I grab her by her bony little hips and yank her out. She's trying to swallow a whole damn drumstick bone HOLE, in the rush to ingest it before I can take it from her.
Daddy reaches into mouth to grab bone, is pulling it out and she makes a last ditch effort to eat the bone, CHOMPING down on it. And my thumb. With her back molars (or whatever those teef are called that a dog has at the back of its mouth). Nutcracker action. Right into the base of my thumbnail at the cuticle. Blood everywhere, me howling. I iced the thing down for hours....I didn't stop bleeding for maybe 5, 6 hours? Motrin out the wazoo.
It would appear that I've so far managed to avoid infection (thank goodness, given where I've seen her mouth go....), I'm continuing to put antibiotic ointment on the nail every time I change the bandage. Not much else I can do to clean it without (urrrk) removing the nail. It hurts to even run tepid water over it. I've been splashing it with Listerine or peroxide whenever I change the bandage too.
Wondering if the little snot didn't manage to break my thumb bone, too, just above the last joint. I know that those teef sheered right through the chicken bone like it didn't exist.... _________________ War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. Wow quikstrike, sorry that happened! I've had the unfortunate experience of having a finger banged into a door so bad that I essentially had to pray for the nail to come off. The blood is crazy, you wouldnt think a little digit could have so much going to it.
Hehehe, I said finger banged _________________ FuturePeter is my make believe boyfriend.

Hiya Rae. *shivers* All of these finger-banging stories...I've never had a situation as bad as quik or you. _________________ Vice President of the Owen Fan Club

Hey FP, how's it shakin?
Yeah, that was when I was younger too... uhm, about 12 I'd say, and my sister slammed something on my hand, I can't even remember what. And my parents were gone for the evening, there was so much blood and pain that we had to go to the neighbors house, except he was about 85 or so and had bad hearing, so we had to pound on the door and scream for forever. I don't even remember what he did to make it better, but I remember my parents actually taking me into the doctor when they came home so I could get shots to make sure it didn't get infected. Or maybe it was something metal and they were tetanus shots, who knows... _________________ FuturePeter is my make believe boyfriend.

during the summer I was carring a table with someone and somehow it ended up sliding over my foot and taking my toenail from my big toe right up to 90 degrees. I was in pain and there was blood everywhere. the toe nail fell off about 3 days later and I don't think that I am regrowing a new one, which means that I am going to be toenailess for the rest of my life _________________ The only man who's worth your tears will never make you cry |

Which is exactly why I stifled any dream of becoming a soccer player like Mia Hamm! I was quite good...it's a shame. *sigh* _________________ Vice President of the Owen Fan Club
