We have to assume, given the size of the house, the fact that his parents had a big enough boat to do some serious sailing and the fact that Jonas does not have to work, that he is very wealthy.
I'm wondering why a parentless, rich, sexy young man in CA would be in the yard doing handstands and playing golf with an imaginary ball instead of going out partying with Paris Hilton or something...
Oh, and not to be a stickler, but it's Jonas, not Joshua. |
His YouTube profile says he's 19. His parents allegedly died 6 years ago - he would have been 13. He must be a freakin' Bruce Wayne. |
Hmmmm, they need to address that issue for the sake of reality. Who was taking care of him until he turned 18? Surely he wasn't all The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane.
Overall, though, I have to say I'm liking this character (who I'd bet money is cannon). Absolutely better than Gemma, that's for sure.
And he's a cutie! |

Yes it was something to address, but I was under the impression that his parents were ALIVE. He discussed being in his "dad's library", which appeared to be still a place in use, not something belonging to someone who died six years ago. He easily could have said they are always traveling on business (that'd help to explain why they are rich, they have good jobs that keep them busy). The whole "they disappeared too" thing is just insane. And also we got the gist that they were lost and sea and died. I don't think him telling Bree "I know how you feel, my parents disappeared and died too" is all that comforting.
Besides that, his awkward silences add up to about 1/3 of the entire video, he's boring like none other. I kept wanting to fast forward until something interesting happening, but of course it never does get interesting. _________________ Check out: Funniest LG15-related episode... ever?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ6kBdNegfs |

Maybe everything is the same in the library, because he is holding out that they may still be alive? He did say that they nor the wreckage had every been found. I've read that a high percentage of people who've had a loved one disappear without a trace are prone to keeping their things exactly as they were when they disappeared. Some kind of psychological thing that if they change or get rid of their things, that they have given up that they will ever come home.
So maybe our poor, hot Jonas is just hoping that his parents might someday come home.
As for the silences, I think you are seeing them as boring from a man's point of view. As a girl, I see them as introspective and deep. |

I have to agree with HyeMew. His whole story make no sense.
By the way, the 140th longitude is off the coast of JAPAN. How the heck does the Humboldt County ranger station pick up the distress call? _________________ It's STILL all connected... |

I think it's still too early to judge the new character (if he is indeed canon) so harshly. He's had only 3 vids so far to establish himself.
I don't find it at all surprising that his father's library has remained the same over the past six years. I've heard of people keeping cell phone accounts of deceased loved ones for years simply because they can't bear to part with the recording of their voicemail greeting, even though the phone remains unused in a drawer the whole time.
Okay, this is just my own personal opinion, but being told by someone that they can empathize with whatever distressing circumstances I happen to find myself in, is in fact comforting. Just knowing that they understand and are reaching out to talk or whatever.
What I don't understand is how some people seem to immediately hate on the new characters. I prefer a wait-and-see stance, myself. |

No, it wouldn't surprise me either... normally. However, according to him, his parents vanished when he was 13 and he's been holding down the fort ALONE ever since. He didn't come right out and said no other family member ever stepped in in the past and lived with him, but that'd imply them moving out of their own house to move in with him to take care of him. If that's the case, then why aren't they there now- they got tired and left? Sure some 18 and 19 year olds might live alone in apartments or something, but that only necesitates paying rent. It's not heavily involved. However, living in a mansion? Imagine all the expenses and upkeep it takses (and COSTS) to live in there- and ALONE. I don't know ANY teenager this mature to handle all that responsibility, especially one that is as lazy as he is.
What this looks like to me is a real Peter Pan story. The mansion is this big wonderland which, as he says, gives him a lot of room in which "to play". Like in a fantasy world, Jonas has no cares, no responsibilities, and it's perfect feasable for someone like him to live in it without any problems. Transplant this into reality and the entire premise falls apart. It's not feasible in the least. Jonas literally lives in a world completely seperate from the real one, severely hurting the creditability of Bree's world as well (seeing as he as canon lives in her world- yes he IS canon I know this for a fact, it just hasn't been announced yet- which is why I'm so angry). Then again, maybe this makes sense, as Bree and Daniel have lived in a motel for like two weeks now with just the money they fled the house with. Maybe Jonas has the same kind of deal going with the government in which he doesn't need to pay property taxes, utilities, food, or anything like that either........ _________________ Check out: Funniest LG15-related episode... ever?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ6kBdNegfs |

If he's as rich as it would seem he is, I'm sure there is probably some sort of person in charge of taking care of his money and making sure his bills are paid. Some sort of lawyer/trustee or something.
As far as hurting the credibility because it's so far fetched...well...it's not, to me, any more far fetched that a person giving injections that they don't know the contents of to their daughter because the Order told 'em to. |

I'm not all that sure but I think the 140th meridian of east longitude is off the coast of Japan whereas the 140th meridian of west longitude is half way between California and Hawaii
Is anyone taking bets yet on how long it will be before Jonas and Bree "hook up"? My guess it will be some time in December after Yousefs contract runs out. |

Yes I think we are far past the point of worrying about credibility, or consistency, or cohesiveness of the plot line for that matter. |

Yeah, I think Yousef's contract was for six months originally. I don't blame him for checking out though. They can't do any other work until this is finished contractually. _________________ Fair is Fair! |

This third vid really kills the mystery. He's canon for sure. |

The thing that most struck me about the new Jonas video was Humboldt County--my daughter moved there as an adult *because* it is such a laid-back, stuck-in-the-60s place where every third acre of forest is a pot farm (exaggerating here, but not by a lot). I don't actually know a lot of mansion-wealthy people there, but I do know a bazillion people (of every age) who really do "play" almost as a career. For this reason, Jonas' character doesn't seem that "off" to me.
By way of example, I knew a woman in Arcata (a town in Humboldt County) who got terminal cancer, and all the people around her were weirdly unmoved by it, saying things like, "This is part of your path. Bummer." Her philosophy was similar, and she just smoked a bunch of the pot everyone donated to her, till she finally died.
Anyway, Humboldt seemed like significant information to take into account when evaluating J's character.
And by the way, since it's located in Northern California, it's not going to involve a simple drive-up-the-street to get him to meet Bree.
HyeMew, thanks for the heads-up that this is going to be made canon. _________________ Could somebody please hide money in *my* toys? |

I don't think his lifestyle is far-fetched. A rich couple with a child almost certainly has an attorney (or the like) who would handle finances etc. for thier child in the event that they died. He wouldn't have trouble paying bills, because he's probably sitting on a big fat inheritance.... Depending on the statute of limitations on missing persons being declared legally dead, maybe some life insurance money as well. I would say the same people cared for him after his parents disapearance that did before (maids, nannies etc.)
As for his being "immature", well he is a nineteen year old guy I know some nineteen year old guys (who aren't even rich) that are living with their parents and playing playstation all day.....
If he's canon, it seems they are avoiding the hundred "does he work?" "does he go to school?" questions (like the ones that were previously asked about Daniel)right off the bat.
I like the character, I think that they can give him "heart" through the telling of his story. I also see how he could connect with Bree's situation, seeing as her parents have now "disappeared" as well.

Actually it's not far-fetched at all. A friend of mine was exactly in the same situation Jonas is. His parents were rich, they died in a car accident. He was left alone in a big house at age 15. His aunt was legally respondible for him, but still he was living alone pretty much like Jonas is. At age 20, when I met him, he was still talking about his father's library, his mother's blahblahblah.....Therefore, it doesn't sound like a crazy story to me!
The only thing that bothers me about him being canon though, is that as movie/book characters go, he is really "cliche". He's an easy one. No parents, no job, rich. anything can happen from there. That's...a little lame. But anyway... Welcome Jonas in the Bree Universe! |

Yeah it doesn't seem weird at all.
How can he be still living in a huge house? Because he inherited lots and lots of money from his parents.
And good point on the guardian thing... perhaps there's also a relation with the gridiron gang and that war movie (maybe flags of our fathers?) |
