Transcript

(Charlie walks up the stairs to her office, and pushes open a door. She walks past all of her coworkers, who greet her, and goes into a seperated office. She sets her coat down, and puts the camera on her desk.)

Charlie: Hey. I'm back at work, which really sucks. I r- (Sighs.) I feel like I shouldn't be here, but I can't afford to take any more time off. On the flip side, when I was away, Gary, my team leader, got fired. Apparently he got busted trying to steal the photocopy machine during the Christmas party. Fool. Anyway, that would be all good and well if I hadn't been promoted in his place. So, um, new office, new job, and new hair.

Awesome I know, 'cause from what I can see, he really didn't do much more work than me and the money's much better. You know, I- I know I shouldn't be excited about it and all, but... You know, it's- it's like I try and think about something else for five minutes, and then I remember that Kate's gone, and then suddenly everything just comes crashing back down. And then I feel guilty for forgetting about it in the first place.

(Steve enters the office.)

And the memorial service? It was a disaster.

Steve: Hi, Charlie. (Closes the door.)

Charlie: Steve? What are you doing here?

Steve: I really need to talk to you.

Charlie: Well, I-I can't, I'm at work. It's gonna have to wait. And I think you caused enough trouble at the weekend, don't you?

Steve: Please, Charlie... I'm really sorry about all that. The memorial service, i-it- I never meant for that to happen. I just need a minute. Please.

Charlie: Yeah, okay. Give me- give me a sec, please.

(Charlie turns off the camera. Cut to Charlie and Steve standing next to a window.)

Charlie: What is it?

Steve: I need your help, Charlie. People still think I had something to do with Kate's death, even though the police let me go. The problem is the police don't seem that interested in the case anymore.

Charlie: Well, what do you want from me?

Steve: I want you to help me find out who killed her. You do want to know, don't you?

Charlie: Yeah, of course I want to know, but, I mean, what can I do? I'm not exactly Columbo. And how do I know that it wasn't you?

Steve: What? You know it wasn't me! Oh, please, Charlie...

Charlie: No, I- I'm sorry, Steve. I'm sorry, I j- You know, I just don't know what to think right now. W-well what can I do?

Steve: I don't know. Um... Just give me anything you think might help. I don't know where to start, to be honest with you.

Charlie: Well, in films, don't they always just go to the last place that the victim was seen? I mean, what if you go to the internet café where Kate put up her last blog? Maybe they saw something or know something?

Steve: Yeah. Yeah, thanks, Charlie. I just want to find out who's done this.

Charlie: I want to find out who did this, too. It's just all so hard at the moment, you know?

Steve: I know.
