A close up of the Watcher's hand
Drawing of symbol that Gemma identifies on the Watcher's hand

The Watcher was first seen in the video Exploring The Motel and subsequently in Breakfast In Bed and is referred to as "The man in the suit" until Gemma identifies him as a Watcher in A Watcher. Watchers operate like an order of knights, and Gemma believes that a modern version of the Watchers are part of The Order. Gemma's explanation indicates that several (if not many) Watchers must exist, but it is unknown how many are following Bree and Daniel. This uncertainty arises because the videos never show more than one Watcher at a time and they are never seen in enough detail to be distinguishable from one another. The Watcher has been seen at the motel and at the grocery store, which is one indication that there might be more than one assigned to follow Bree and Daniel. The role of the Watcher is also unknown. Gemma links the Watcher with the Order, which leads Bree and Daniel to run away in Fleeing The Watcher. However, the purpose of the Watcher's surveillance and his true identity are yet to be revealed with certainty.

Wikipedia shows several uses of the term watcher. Of particular interest is Grigori which according to Wikipedia "are a group of fallen angels told of in Biblical apocrypha who mated with mortal women, giving rise to a race of giants known as the Nephilim. However, this definition does not sync with Gemma's since she has given no reason to believe that this Watcher is nonhuman. Also known as "Watchers" (from Greek egrḗgoroi), the Grigori appear in the books of Enoch and Jubilees".

After the Man In The Suit The Deacons comment:
"اوريم وتميماوريم وتميم we have warned you for a while of what can befall you. You are very close to being captured and the Grigori have summoned he who is called שמיחזה."

Comment #230 to the Man In The Suit video uses the term "Grigori" before Gemma posts a video identifying the watcher. Some conclude on this basis that The Deacons (commenter) are official. This remains a hotly debated topic, with some fans arguing that the "Watcher" idea might have been incorporated after The Deacons (commenter) posts became popular, and not because The Deacons (commenter) are part of the production. Gemma did not use the term "Grigori" in connection with the "Watcher".
