Who is lonelygirl15?
Lonelygirl15 is your typical awkward, geeky teenager. Her name is Bree. Raised in a strict, isolated household, she lacks many of the social skills possessed by those of her age. Her best friends consist of her three stuffed animals, Thor the bear, Owen the Turtle, and P. Monkey. She doesn't go out, and spends her time reading or playing juvenile games. Bree is home schooled, and thus isolated from her peers, for a short while she attended high school, but the pressures were too great for her. Without interaction with her peers, this 16 year old has the personality of a 12 year old. Her isolation has made her a naive, juvenile, and submissive young girl. The rents move around a lot and she lacks any true friends, except for Daniel, who befriended her in her short stint in public schools. Although the path has been rocky for them, their friendship has prevailed though such trials as love, religion, beliefs, and parents.
Recently, Bree bought a webcam and began posting on YouTube. In the beginning, she posted simple, silly clips of her and her animals. Later on, however, she opened up to the audience and began telling us more and more about herself, her life, her religion, and her troubles. Lonelygirl15 tells us of how she is home schooled and how her religion further prevents her from doing normal, teenage activities. Along the way, she introduces Daniel, her best real friend. Although he just sits on the bed and reads magazines most of the time, he occasionally participates in her non-fictional clips, PROVING SCIENCE WRONG, which thus demonstrates her intelligence and knowledge.
Daniel and Bree are shown spending more and more time together, whether going on hikes, or him just sitting on her bed. Bree's religious father asks Daniel to film Bree's play for her annual religious summer camp. Daniel flatly declines, and we are introduced to how Bree's beliefs put strain on her friendship with Dan. After tears were shed, and angry words where spoken. Secretly, Daniel tells us he intends to show up at her play, though not to film it, much to the surprise and happiness for Bree. They've gotten over their first hump in their public relationship. We discover Bree has been chosen to participate in a sacred ceremony for her religion, though what religion we do not know.
The Rebellion of lonelygirl15
Daniel invites Bree to a party, something she has never experienced, and with people she only met during her short time in public education (and who also teased her for her smarts and questions). Her parents forbid her to go, but Bree decides to sneak out anyway. Much to her dismay, her father was waiting for her when she got home and she was promptly placed under "house arrest" and forbidden to see Daniel. After her first rebellion against her parents, it seems as if Bree has become addicted to sneaking out, or perhaps she just relishes her newfound freedom. Daniel invites her on various "dates" and Bree is confused about teen love. She’s never had a boyfriend before, and obviously never had a kiss, so Daniels desire to be something more than friends befuddles her, especially when he kisses her at another party.
The Beginning of the Religious Turmoil
Although Bree promised to have a dinner with Daniel, she realizes that she has to go to a Fall Equinox ceremony for her religion. Again, her mysterious religion tears Daniel and Bree apart. She decides that her religion is more important to her than her only friend. She gains a helper, someone who will assist her in preparing for the upcoming ceremony. She is already studying hard, dieting, and taking mysterious pills and receiving strange shots. Nevertheless, she enjoys this new friend. Daniel, still mad, follows Bree and her Helper, trying to figure out just who that strange woman is. Bree sees the video and is upset and wants Daniel to leave her alone and stop following her. He ignores her and becomes more and more obsessed about her religion.
The Ceremony
Daniel finds inconclusive, yet disturbing stories about a man associated with Bree's religion, Aleister Crowley. He follows Bree yet again and stumbles upon the ceremony and films part of the secret ritual, barely escaping being caught. After that, he follows Lucy, Bree's helper, to her apartment and waits until she leaves. Then he breaks into the office and finds pictures of him video taping the ceremony. Bree hears of this and becomes extremely worried about Daniels safety. He freaks out and is convinced that the "cult" as he calls it, is following him, as he followed them. So he goes "underground", staying at a friends place to hide from the cult. Bree calls Daniel and under the instruction of Lucy and other cult members, lies to him about the ceremony. As is turns out, no one really knows what exactly the ceremony is, Bree's father doesn't know what the shots are, and Lucy wont answer any of Bree's questions. With Daniel's encouragement, Bree decides not to do the Ceremony, and her parents surprisingly agree with her decision. Meanwhile, lonelygirl15 comes into contact with Gemma, an old friend, who warns her of the power and influence of the "Order".
On the Run
While at Daniel's house, Bree's parents tell her that she should sleep at Daniel's for the night, an extreme contrast to the conservative parents Bree first knew. In the morning, both worried, Bree and Daniel decide to go over to her house after not receiving any responses to their numerous phone calls. When they arrive, they witness her parents leaving with a man from the ceremony. Inside, they find a note inside of p. monkey warning them to stay away along with some money. With this, Daniel and Lonelygirl15 decide to run. They sleep in their car for a few days before settling in to a motel. Bree seems to be her usual, silly self, but Gemma warns her that she is being followed by a "watcher", a member or the order who is stalking them. They both flee again, finding another hotel. Daniel is upset with Bree for not taking this seriously, as Gemma said also.
