Background
Crowley grew up in a strict Plymouth Brethren family where his mother sometimes referred to him as the "Beast of Revelations." After Crowley's father's death, he became disillusioned with his religious upbringing and began to explore alternative religions. This eventually led him to discover magick and found the Hermetic Order of the Golden Down.
Crowley and Arthur Edward Waite (1875 - 1942) were associates in the early days of the Golden Dawn, but became rivals after the destruction of the association. The two founded rival organizations - Crowley the A∴A∴ (Argenteum Astrum) and Waite the Fellowship of the Rosy Cross - and mocked each other in published works.
Crowley's life largely consisted of exploring the far reaches of the once great British Empire, studying various forms of Vajrayana Buddhism, theosophy, occultism, ceremonial magick, and ancient ritual. He incorporated these into his own comprehensive methodology in an extensive body of literature consisting of poetry, prose, essays, and syncretized occultism.
Dubbed the "Wickedest Man in the World," Crowley is perhaps best known for his seemingly contradictory but esoterically linked instructions called the Law of Thelema: "Do what thou Wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under Will." He is also associated with the number 93, since qabalistically love and will both enumerate to 93, thus it is shorthand for the Law of Thelema.
Crowley also took over the Ordo Templis Orientis after its founder Theodor Reuss's death. Under Crowley's leadership, the O.T.O. was reorganized under the laws of Thelema.
Crowley died of a respiratory infection on December 1st, 1947, at the age of 72. He had become addicted to heroin after being prescribed morphine for his asthma and bronchitis many years earlier. He and his last doctor died within 24 hours of each other. Reports claim that the doctor had refused to continue his opiate prescription and that Crowley had put a curse on him.

Early Suspicions
In the earlier days of lonelygirl15's first season, Aleister Crowley was noticed so much because Bree had a picture of him as a part of what some describe as a "shrine" in her bedroom.
Bree never directly referenced Crowley but often mentioned the Hymn of One not by name, but just as "her religion." It was revealed a little after the shrine was noticed that Aleister Crowley had a high role within the Hymn of One -- with many holidays named after him.
Further Research
In a video named after Crowley, Daniel reads a story from an unspecified Arizona newspaper that associates Crowley with an abduction in 1943. However, Crowley never lived in Arizona nor owned a house there, so the reference was complete fiction.
Connections to the Order
According to Hidden Treasures, Aleister Crowley once took an expedition to Egypt -- Denderah, more specifically -- and discovered some hieroglyphics in tomb of one of Hathor's descendants. They taught him the secrets of trait positive girls. He tracked down the girls and used them to his own advantage, and went on to found the Order.
Also, Crowley's birthday is on October 12th, which was the date of the fake Ceremony that Lucy used to trick Daniel. The occasion is casually celebrated by modern Thelemites under the title of Crowleymas, typically with curry, wine, and lots of mirth.
