Daniel’s A Liar is the one-hundred seventeenth video in the lonelygirl15 video series. This video is correctly called "Daniel’s A Liar", with a punctuation apostrophe (right single quotation mark) instead of a typewriter apostrophe - it resides here for easier accessibility. Bree sets the record straight about her not-actually-that-passionate night with Daniel.
Transcript
Bree: Okay, so, I haven't been on the computer for the past couple of days because Daniel wouldn't let me. Now I know why. I just watched his last video. What? What is he talking about? I guess I should have known better. Daniel just takes everything too far. There's no in between for him. And on Monday night, he was acting all weird and he like, made this big dinner and then cooked this, small chicken thing. It was very un-Daniel to say the least. There was low lighting, and candle light, and, he would talk to me in this weird whisper-voice. I guess that he thought it was romantic, or something, but it was kinda strange. It all makes sense now, now that I've seen the video. But-- I think I need to clear some things up. First of all, I am not in love with Daniel. Admittedly, I never should have kissed him, and, I don't know, I acted on impulse, and it was definitely a mistake. I'm sorry Daniel, but it was. And second of all... there is no second of all. I should have known that he would completely misinterpret this. (Sighs) It was a kiss, Daniel, it doesn't mean that we're together. And, you know, as for this "walk of shame", that you called it, you slept on the floor. And the only thing shameful about it, is the fact that you snore. So, all your comments out there? Not so much. Way to make it awkward, Daniel. Anyway, we're friends, okay? I can't handle any more than that right now. It's-- (Sighs) Enough of that. Umm, on a more serious note, I haven't been sleeping very well lately. I've been having a lot of really bad nightmares. I think that it's because of all the stuff that my dad told me. My dad died because he wanted to get close to me. I can't understand why anybody would want to be with me right now. (sighs) I'm bad news bears.
Notes
- In response to this episode, one fan commented that "maybe she is just pushing him away, saying 'I don't love Daniel' because she knows anyone close to her is in danger..." Bree's assertion that her father died because he wanted to "get close" to her supports this opinion.
- There is an apparent contradiction or transition in Bree's character. Back in September, she seemed to view her first kiss as quite significant, albeit embarrassing. Yet, in this video, she makes comments like, "It was a kiss... it doesn't mean that we're together." This nonchalant attitude toward the subject could show that either (1) her recent experiences have matured her greatly, or (2) that the kiss did mean something to her, but now she is pushing him away for fear of hurting him or out of anger that he spread it across the Internet.
- Bree's changing attitudes regarding her first kiss could be regarded as a feminist moment.
